I recently took delivery of the Sony KV36HQ100S.

I have only had the Tele for about a month and its started to make a buzzing noise from the back of the unit. Normally I can't notice as I have it loud but late at night when my wife has gone to bed the volume is much lower it is then I have noticed this buzzing noise.

It makes the noise whether the tele is muted or not and I have tried DVD a Cable box and normal terestial it makes no difference.

Do I need to call Empire-Direct and get someone to look at it or is there a fix I can do at home?

Your help is going to be invaluable.

I think most sets buzz to a certain extent. My new Panny does, and my old Hitachi did. The impression I get is that 100 Hz sets are more prone to it than 50 Hz. It shouldn't be audible at normal viewing volume.

If the noise (buzz) is from the back of the set (around the neck of the tube) then it will be the scan coils I would guess.

Put your ear to the top towards the back and see what you can hear.
If its noise from the speaker then I would guess its power supply related.

What Sony will do about this is anyones guess - maybe a mod kit of some kind if its scan coils

Contact empire asap....and pray they dont send some sub-contract cowboy engineer out to you.
