Several month looking for Samsung LCD-choose 8th series.Reading forums, checking prices and get ready to buy...

But more i see. more disappoinment i feel: LE46a856 :

SD pictures are so bad .....terible..My wife running away from these LCD view :)
Try to watch DVDrips (about 1.4 gb size)...letters are doubled...a lot of artefacts in black or in action effects .....so bad seeing...
try to watch 720 quality movie: picture is better !! but still there are blear!

1080 from Blueray ??? What to watch???
So buy for 1200 GBP and feel disappoinment??? Or watch only Blueray disk they are too much price for today and little asortiment.
Or keep it in garage for PS3 gaming???Not for living rooms headache ? :)

I think to buy LCD is to fool yorself !!!and waste money !!!

tjey77: At 46", 46PZ80 is a very good set. Not only are the SD better than LCDs, HD is also cracking. Ofcourse there is no comparison to Pioneer, but Panasonics are renowned for quality build and picture processing and reproduction and accurate colors too.

I spend 4 hours in my friends house with my PS3 in front of Pioneer 6 generation(old) plasma !!!! It was amazing !
Same day I watch 8 slim class Samsung LCD its horror !!!!

I try the same video files and SD channels and came to conclusion that LCD is horror vs PLASMA. Of course PLASMA means PIONEER not Samsung.

    Now I investigating plasma.

I disagree, Pioneers are the best yes, but Panasonic provide the best value for money, Pioneer charge the most for people who want the best, not one of the best. Unless you have thousands and thousands of pounds to spend, Panasonic plasmas are the way to go, brilliant sets

I remember having a look at a fella's 40" Sony Wega CRT, I think thats about the largest CRT you could get. I thought it looked like cr*p, basically SD at close range won't look good regardless of the screen type.

So the OP is comparing a 46" LCD to whatever he currently has, probably around 30"? Same viewing distance of course its not going to look as sharp.

One of the things that really impressed me about the Samsung Series 8 was the SD picture compared to the rest of their range. Have you made sure you've put it into standard or movie mode, turned off any noise reduction or edge enhancement options, and turned down the sharpness control? Letters being doubled sounds like either a problem with the settings or a poor quality cable.

I don't think your TV is the problem here....

    Again after LCD tV testing:
5 hours I watched on Samsung 46`` LCD TV good quality SD chanels in my friends house and I Do NOT CHANGE MY OPINION :

The picture was not snowy, but still blurry and I played with settings :nothing changes !!!I cant stand it !

On LCD TV the people`s faces colour like "LIVING DEAD" :) like in mask !

The signal and cable quality are good. So LCD TV itself cant show good view without HD channels.

I'm assuming that you own plasmas? Before I bought my first plasma I though that my mates 32V4000 was pretty good, now after getting a PX80 and 32PG6000 there is motion smearing all over the place, watching Top Gear was like watching The Simpsons. Yes, I am going overboard but I couldn't stand it to be honest, I think that once you go plasma you don't go back. It was better in HD...still not as good as either of my plasmas though :D

I have to agree wth you guys DO NOT buy an LCD unless it is a good quality one

I brought the Samsung LE32a457 and took it back on tuesday the picture quality was terrible on Freeview, there was blurring, fuzziness, double text, juddering and the gaming was ok but colours were not right and looked slightly strange.

People who think that an LCD will be better than your CRT think again !

All i would say is gor for a PLASMA or a PANASONIC LCD

That's true actually. CRTs are pretty much the best sets you can get for watching SD material, they were developed and made for SD TV. Plasmas and LCDs are made for HD TV/movies. Plasmas are pretty much as good now, they produce a sharper picture with a little more detail so a decent plasma is even better (or most plasmas are better than older CRTs). Panasonic LCDs are the best LCDs for SD though

As this thread has veered off in the lets slag off LCD's and bigup Plasmas direction it will be closed, if you want to discuss the merits of the plasma technology then by all means do so in the correct forum.
