Stopping Fast Forward Panny DVD recorder

Hi All,
I have a Panasonic DVD Recorder (DMR-EX85EB)which is a few years old now.
When I fast forward a recording,I am having difficulty stopping it with the remote. I thought it may be the battery's in the remote so changed them, but I am still having the same problem. Anybody else have this problem?
