    Hi,

I'm not sure where to put this.. either here or in the NAS forum, I suspect it's an issue with the external drive so I'll start here.

I'm trying to set up an automated back up routine to an external hard drive (2tb Verbatim drive) on my QNAP TS-419p but the drive keeps going to sleep over night and the back up fails as the QNAP thinks the disk is no longer connected.

    1. Is there a way to stop the disk going to sleep?
    2. If not, what external USB drives are about that don't power down?

    Cheers

    Neil

OK it seems there is no way for the QNAP to power up the External HDD, and the only way to disable the power management on the HDD is to run a tool on a Windows or Mac PC.. DOH!

So I need a new External HDD.. any recommendations for a drive that does not power down if idle for a certain time?
