    From the listing....

"These items were stolen from my garden in Horley, Surrey which is close to Gatwick Airport. Being stolen from my garden and not my house means that my insurance company will not pay for these lost items"

Knew there was a reason not to keep my camera gear in the garden.......

Totally feel for the guy, but I also have to query why the best part of £9k of gear was in his garden unattended!

Reminds me i must get my gear insured for my Vegas trip. Any of you guys got any suggestions? Have about £3k of gear including body lenses and laptop to cover, only needs to be for a week.

The 'all risk' part of my house contents insurance with Direct Line is around that sort of figure without me asking for a high figure. Friends also with direct line had a camcorder stolen on holiday and replaced with a better model so I don't doubt they would pay up.

Might be worth asking your house contents insurer.

I live with the rents at the moment and don't really want to be landing that hassle on my old mans premium if i can help it at all. Any reputable camera insurance companies that specialise in this kinda stuff?

Yep, be interesting to hear the circumstances surrounding the theft... you can hardly run off with that stuff. Maybe it was a garden shed job, but still very careless.

As to Vegas, hope you don't stay at the Stratosphere, most of the room safes are dead :thumbsdow
You really should have dedicated insurance all year round, not just when you go away. My own household insurance covers me, though at extra cost.

    cheers,
    Andy

HAHAHAHAHA i am staying at the strat! Oh well - Don't think my gear would fit in the safes anyway to be honest, apparantly you'll struggle to get a large laptop in! What's the hotel safe like? Mate is probably staying at the Bellagio (darnit!) so will get him to look after it probably, it will only make an appearance for 2 days trips to grand canyon and down the strip

Mainly don't have insurance for my kit here because it's either on my back when i'm out shooting (pictures not deer) or at home - and i'm just lazy. I'll learn my lesson one day when i get mugged or something i guess.

Really have to look in to the in's and outs of what a simple home policy will cover you for and what won't. I'm in bars, on the streets in town late at night here there everywhere. Christ i could leave on a train i'm that forgetful.

I think myself i'd prefer some stand alone cover to cover all the bases

Yeah, I was there june-july for two weeks (world series of poker) then spent another week in L.A. You could get lucky, I got my stuff into a friends safe (he had a big suite), that was a large dslr/80-400mm and bits, small laptop may fit into one of their safes. Deposit boxes available at cashiers section, but we're not talking Ocean's 11 type safes :D

You can get some nice shots at the top of the tower but I preferred the Eiffel tower at the Paris (worth it alone for the elevator commentary by an old woman from New Jersey trying to sound french... think dinner lady from the Simpsons.

    Have a good time.

Back in the early 90's, I had a grands worth of SVHS camcorder on my home contents policy. Seem to remember not very expensive then, all risks worldwide cover........ :D

Just looked on the direct line site

Q:Are my belongings covered outside the home or when I go on holiday?

A:Yes, if you take out our Personal Possessions option your personal belongings (including up to £500 for Money and £500 for Credit Cards)will be covered against theft, loss or accidental damage anywhere in the British Isles and for up to 60 days abroad each year. Overseas Travel cover is limited to £7500 for any one incident and any individual items worth more than £1500 must be specified on the policy.

So I guess I must have that option - No idea of the cost ... leave all that sort of stuff to the Mrs.
