    Hi,

How good are still photo's taken with the "still photo" option on a camcorder. The resolution on my camcorder is 800,000 pixels (400,000 effective pixels whatever that means).

Are the photo's good enough to print out and look reasonable.

I am going on holiday tomorrow, but don't have a camera.

My options are to buy a couple of disposable cameras or use the video camera for the stills.

Also what file format does the video camera save the files as and can they be opened with tools like Paint Shop Pro.

    Thanks,
    M

The quality of the pictures is totally different depending on the camera and how it records the image.

Most should record a progressive still, which would look a lot clearer than a plain old grab from the moving video.

Most camera will grab in a JPEG type format, but don't worry about that too much, whatever it is, it will open in any image editing Application.

Also some video cameras claim to produce megapixel stills, but you'll really have to try it and see. If you have the videocamera, just try it now.

To view the image, often the easiest way is just to drag it off disc onto your web browser, at that can handle most image formats.

Most DV take pics in 640 x 480 mode.

Buy a disposable camera, Your camcorder won't take decent enough pictures for standard 6X5 prints. You need a megapixel camcorder like the TVR33 for that.

If you are going to get a disposable camera, get one of those new kodak High Definition film ones, I'd imagine they will take better pictures.
