    [RANT]

Duran Duran's Greatest Hits (Oct) being the latest !

There's just NO excuse these days to release music DVDs in anything less than 5.1.

It's just sheer laziness and stinginess!

A few years ago in the early days of DVDs...yes,
    but nowadays:confused:
Surely it should be the norm?

I 'm surprised such a 'visual' band like Duran Duran with their big production videos were not re-mixed in 5.1.

    Abba Gold is another example.
I'm sure there are others too.

THERE'S JUT NO EXCUSE FOR IT!

    [/RANT]

2 channel PCM & 5.1- (either DD and dts should be standard.

2 channel audio PCM can sound better than a DD 5.1 mix. If the 5.1 is screwed- you have the choice of going back to the 2 channel PCM version.

PCM tends to be the best for music videos (IMO)
dts is great for live stuff.

Yeah, I prefer 2.0 for music videos. 5.1 for concerts and live stuff, for the added ambience.

Then I guess none of you have heard Queen's Greatest Video Hits 1 or either of their two studio album DVDAs in DTS 5.1.

Well, once you have, 2.0 just doesn't cut it anymore.

Don't confuse PCM stereo with DD2.0.
I would always prefer to have an uncompressed PCM track over a DD5.1/DTS mix on 'music' dvds.
I'm yet to be covinced by music in 5.1 for the sake of it.
Having said that I was pretty impressed by Pink Floyd DSOTM in SACD multi-channel though. (That wasn't DD or dts though!)

brilliant set indeed. (the greatest hits video.
but am I the only one who has no sound on the centre speaker for some of the songs on disc one??

PS I also think that 5.1 (either DD or DTS) and a PCM track are compulsory, but then I don't make DVDs:(

    No, everyone's is like that.
That's the way it was intended.
Brian May isn't a big fan of using the centre channel for DTS music mixes.

There's a more technical article on this on th enet some where.

I'll try and dig it up.
