I am still looking to replace Xen

I seem to have narrowed the choice to:

    Rio Carbon
    Ipod Mini

    Important specs are:

    Rechargeable
Plenty volume (Drive open top car)
Easy to use on the move
    Min 4gig
    Good battery life
    Excellent sound quality
    £140 to spend

Very difficult choice mate both are very good. I had the choice of both and eventually went for the 6gig mini i-pod. I tested my mini i-pod and left it playing on its own and it ran for over the 18 hours. During use I would expect around 15 to 16.
However the other player I think is just as good, it really is down to what tickles your fancy! :)
If you get the mini dont forget to download Go Pod to take the eu volume capacity off.

    Already downloaded ;)

I have read reviews for both and both seem to be good. The ipon seems to have the edge as far as reviews go and you can buy loads of goodies for it but then I may be able to get a refurbished Rio.

Am going to pop to Dixons as they do both and have a look

    Min 4gig- 20gig!
Good battery life- Out performs most players
Excellent sound quality- Reported good sound on the forums
    £140 to spend- £10 more! £150

Sound quality most independant observers would say is better with both the devices you are choosing between. (I have listened to the HD3 and found it had flabby bass and a slight hissing noise when listening to tracks).
It however kicks ass in terms of battery life and also capacity, but on the downside you would have to use the chronically awful sonic stage.

If you do not need 20gig and think you never will then go for your fav from your original choices.

Getting close - oh err missus

I had a look at the Carbon but not sure I like the shape. Was unable to trial

The girl at Dixon could not offer any advise re the Carbon and said that the Ipod was crap as it had bugs

I have downloaded both manuals and am concidering which may be the easiest to use but if I was honest I have going toward the Ipod. One main reason is looks and the availability of bling accessories

As it has a dock connector, you can get a car mount for the Mini where you simply stick it on the dock, then the signal gets routed to the car stereo... no fiddling with menus or volume (as on the HD3 / Carbon). The Dension Ice Link may also be useful to look at.

Please dont take any advice from anyone working in Dixons they truly are clueless numpties.

John Lewis are normally very good at allowing you to listen to these players but if the accessories are important then go for the same as me the i-pod mini (Totally Bug free :D )

I'd just like to big-up the Rio Carbon as I did on another post yesterday. A truly excellent player and easily the best portable I have ever owned. When paired with the Sennheiser PX100s you get a sound you would never imagine something so small could produce.
