Television is set up and picture and sound is perfect.
However when linked to my PC with VGA I get no sound.
I am not sure of what I have to buy to enable sound on the PC side.
My Seventy something old head is just not functioning sensibly anymore.
    Thanks for any help.

Have tried using the mini stereo cable from screen to computer and if I try to play a CD for example, I get:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.
    Yet I have: -On-board 7.1-Channel audio
    -24-bit resolution audio format support
    -Sampling rates up to 96KHz
    -Multi-channel AC-link supported alternatively
    -Supports SPDIF Out.

So I have sound on the TV side but nothing on the PC :lease:
    Any help appreciated.

    Hi again,

I'm using VGA + ministereo for watchingDVD from my laptop to my acer AL2671W and it works.

First, you should check where your audio cable is plugged :

    - it must be PC audio in on your LCD (number 5 on Acer User's Guide, page 10)
    - it must be audio out on your computer (the one with the green ring)

Next, you should check if you have the windows sound on your TV (startup sound, bip, etc.)

If you have the windows sound, then it is probably a problem with Windows Media, try check another cd player software

    Good luck :)

P.S. You should have kept your original post instead of creating a new one

    @ PoloQc
Thanks for the help. I had some hopeless problems with windows sound and had no choice but format.
    Now everything is excellent.
Had a look for some DVI cables but am confused, the one I ordered has different connections and no good for the Acer. Obviously best to ask before making another purchase. Also could do with advice on upgrading graphics card. At present I have Nvidea Ge Force FX5200.
I'm old but I'm sure having fun
