    Thought I'd try to start my first poll lol.

    As everyone seems to be upgrading, thought I'd check how many people are actually happy with keeping what they've got for some time, after all.. 'a great system should last for years if not decades...'

    i think my next move will be new speakers which may be late next year or early 2007, after that will either come a new receiver or tv in 2008

    Overall I am quite happy with my system as it stands, but will be replacing my old 28" Toshiba Pro-logic TV soon with either a Samsung or Optoma DLP, and then maybe look at partnering this with the new Pioneer 989 that is due out soon.

    Depends whether my lottery numbers come up......... :D

    Hoping for a new (well, secondhand as they don't make the one we want anymore) TV in the next year or so, which will then allow for surround sound in the lounge - cables are all in and under the new carpet, we just need that TV!!

    I've been desparate to upgrade my current 5.1 amp for years now as I have a large number of 6.1 dvd's I'm desperate to check out but due to the fact that I still actively watch ac3 laserdiscs, I'm stuck with my 6 year old amp which is rf compatiable - the only other amp currently available which is rf compatiable and 6.1 is a 2 grand pioneer!

    Err new subwoofer for me this week, in the next few weeks a new DVD player, new amp, new power amp, new rack, new speaker stands, new projector. Oh dear it never ends does it? :D

    For those people who know me on here and always see me changing kit, come Xmas eve I'll have owned my PMCs and surrounds for exactly 1 year, and my plasma 18 months. Think I deserve a prize, because that's a record for me:D

    HD plasma (or SED or whatever superior technology might emerge in the meantime) once the prices come somewhere near current SD levels...

    ... then the SD screen is going in the BEDROOM. We've got an attic room with a ceiling at about 37.5degrees over the foot of the bed.... PERFECT for a "wall" mount with all the cabling behind the plasterboard. Can't wait for that project!

    I've change everything in the last 18 months .
    New Plasma
    New Amp
    New Speakers
    New DVD player

    I doubt I'll get SkyHD due to potential compatability issues with my hitachi , and XBOX360 is a way off for me yet

    But you never know

    New amp, DVD player, speakers + stands, CRT, digibox so far this year. To be fair, it was my first set up, but within a few years I'll hopefully have a new amp and console (Revolution) and some new surround speakers.

    I'm embarrassed to say that I haven't even got a half decent CD player at the moment and have to rely on minidisc and MP3 players or my Pioneer DVD player. I shall be buying a CD player soon, possibly a NAD C521BEE - so you can see I'm not aiming too high ;)

    The Audio side is all sorted now, and will be staying as is for quite some time by the looks of things.... *maybe* an UG to some Contour Floorstanders next year, but only a very slight maybe...

    PJ is the only thing on the shopping list for me right now, the last one upped and died in protest at Portugal beating us. :mad:

    lol. Great room design. If thats at the right angle, it's going to be fantastic.

    You need to get a minibar in there too & you'd hardly need to leave the bedroom. Make sure it's backed up with some nice sound too

    dont you find when you upgrade something you always feel the need to upgrade something else to compliment it, eg i upgraded my amp , then felt the need to get a better cd player to get the most out of it

    I will be sticking with my setup for some time now, unless I move house or am able to build an extension to house my HC kit in. At that point I'd consider a new screen (MMud perhaps?), but that's it. The rest I'm happy enough with.

    I'd love to be able to spend £1000s on kit, but can't justify it. I can't see how spending £1000 on speakers will give me five times the aural (that's aural) pleasure.

    I recently 'upgraded' my DVD player (it cost £42 - Philips with Prog Scan & Divx etc) so that I could feed component to my PJ (Panny 700).

    My amp is fine by me - a relatively budget Yamaha and my speakers are good enough too - again budget Eltax.

    If I sampled the delights of a far superior setup I'm sure it would start me thinking, but until then, it's staying as it is.

    The money will be spent on holidays instead!

    I'm pretty happy with my setup, and have no plans to upgrade at the moment. However, I can't say that I won't upgrade something in the next two years...

    Also upgraded my picture quality massively by having Gordon round calibrating my pj :clap:

    New HD DLP TV in the next week....current TV is almost five years old! :rolleyes: Then hopefully a new amp by the end of the month (if Yamaha actually release it!)My current amp is just over seven months old but I want something with HDMI switching...XBox360 begining of December and then will have to start telling my Wife how much better a Z4 is compared to our Z2 (again, just over seven months old) so I can justify getting one of those early next Year :smashin:

    Wow CooperUK, You may be the first hifi keeper posted on this thread! Congrats!

    Good to hear there can actually be an end to upgrading, or at least a few years break etc.

    My dad had a Sasui Hi-fi, which cost a lot about 25+ years ago. It was still going strong when it was sold on ebay a few months back.

    Good equipment should last.

    Liam, that's as close as keeping a hifi I think. Good on you. Did it take many upgrades to get here, or was it a once-off purchase that you decide to keep as is for a while?

    Several upgrades, I'm afraid. I started about 15 years ago, and it went like this...

    Amp: Rotel 2 channel->Yamaha DSPA590->Arcam AV50->Arcam Alpha 10 DAVE

    CD: Aiwa->Arcam Alpha 7

    Speakers: Mission 760i->Kef Coda 9 (+Yamaha surrounds)->MA PMC703 (+MA surrounds)->M&K S85

    Sub: REL 100->SVS 20-39PC+

    TV: Hinari portable->Sony 29"->Panasonic 6 series plasma

    DVD: Pioneer 606D->Pioneer 545

    I now deliberately don't look in magazines, or try to find out what the latest, greatest amp/speakers/dvd player currently is. I'm happy with what I have, and I have other priorities for my money at the moment (mostly my car).

    Cheers,
    Liam

    Precisely.
    Then you need the right cables etc.

    It's not often you are fortunate enough to be able to just upgrade 1 component =]

    Good on you.

    Hope you had no guilt about the Aiwa & the Hinari lol
    Used to have a Hinari UK site next to my old work. Same company that makes bush & alba I think.

    Quality for the money is ok, but they're not much money hehe.

    Used to have an Aiwa all-in-one myself. First stereo, even had 'Front-Surround', which was pretty cheesy, but kind of ok.

    Good idea not to look in the magazines for the latest stuff though.

    Hmm- I had planned to upgrade from CRT TV but frankly at the moment, none of the options at the price are sufficiently good all rounders for me to actually splash the cash.

    So it falls to the stereo to be on the receiving end of another overhaul. The next twelve months should bring the following upgrades.

    One pair of Acoustic Energy AE1's subject to a good listen with the Electrocompaniet
    One Cambridge Audio 840C (Not that I'll actually get rid of the Audio Note :suicide: )
    Then possibly a turntable upgrade- step forward VPI, Transrotor and Pro-ject.
