Stick Twist or Bust?

Hi

Currently mulling over possible replacements for my excellent Yamaha DSP-A1

Reasons for changing include :-

  • Up to date audio format support
  • HDMI Switching
  • Component Upconversion

However it will be hard to justify spending a lot more than a grand on it.

So my dilemma is - do i invest a grand in something like

Yamaha 2600 /4600
Denon 3806

or will i be disappointed with the comparable performance between these cheaper Amp's and what was a Flagship Amp at the time.

Proof's in the listening I know, but if you guys advise that I'd need the equivalent of a Yamaha Z9 then I may put the cash into a scaler instead !

Options Options. :D

Cheers Guys n Gals.

It is difficult to gauge the differences in a flagship of yesteryear vs midrange of today, it is quite likely build quality will be down, but sound quality is subjective and best left for you to decide.

Is there any place arround you that you can get a dempo of the 2 amps from?? That is one of the best ways to find out.

Also worth looking at is the Marantz SR8500 also arround a grand.
