After 2 weeks of visiting Carpet shops and numerous samples we decided on a iSense Serenity Carpet in Charcoal with a nice thick 12mm underlay.

The carpet was delivered yesterday and the Carpet Fitter came over today and fitted it. Within a couple of hours the speakers and electronics were down out of the loft. A good day connecting up and a crude calibration and we should have sounds as well as a picture

Looks great you must be really pleased.

How did you handle the speaker cable coming up from the floor? I saw the holes in the channels but wondered if it’s as simple as running the cable under the underlay, between the carpet grippers and out by the skirting board? Any chance of some photos?

I did see some mention of grommets - are they for the speaker cable?

Hi,

Sorry I’m just getting around to reply, it’s been a hectic week.

We embedded floor trunking along 3 walls of the building so that speaker cables, network cables and HDMI’s are all hidden in the screed until they pop up where needed. The floor trunking has wooden lids and is flush with the screed.

I then used desk like cable grommets for speaker cables to pop up and a long letterbox type cable entry letterbox for all other cables to appear behind the equipment rack.

I’ll take some photos and upload them when I get time. Today we ran a crude standard Audyssey calibration and watched a couple of film scenes.

Both me and the wife were blown away, and that’s before any room treatment or an Audessey Pro Calibration

Looks great, can’t wait to see it finished.
Could you tell me what size your screen is?

Hi, the screen is 92” at the moment, we could possibly go slightly larger but then would not have room for Bass Traps in those corners

Possibly a bit Larger

I’ve managed to squeeze in a 114” Carada screen and finally I’m happy that the image does the room and sound justice.

I still have to do some room treatment but in the whole we’re happy with how it currently looks and sounds.

My old screen in my other house was Carada and they are top quality so when this came up I took the chance to see if I could make it fit and it’s Perfect

We’ve finally got the Mirrored wall up in the Gym half and I have a blue frog audio making me 19 acoustic Panels which should be turning up next week.

I’ll post some pix once they are up but we finally feel there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Finally got the acoustic panels up on the walls. We’re using thicker 120mm Bass Traps on the rear walls and under the screen on the front wall.

The first and second reflection points with a couple of Clouds are all 55mm thick panels.

I’m considering a couple of 500mm wide diffuser panels made to squeeze in between the door frame and light switch.

A quick Audyssey Calibration and our first couple of films watched today. For anyone who’s considered room treatment and has the room / funds I’d say go for it. It’s the biggest single improvement in SQ I’ve had from any bit of kit. Once the extra panels up I’ll fire up the laptop for the Audyssey Pro Calibration.

Just got to sort out the Blu Ray Storage for the rear side walls which will also help as diffusers.

Looks incredible, love it! :smashin:

If those acoustic panels aren't professionally made you're a lot better at diy than me...

Hi mate

They are all from Blue Frog Audio

Blue Frog Audio Acoustic Treatment

I did consider going DIY and then realised it was just as cheap to go to work and earn the dosh and pay someone to do it for me.

we even got 6 panels in different greys for the Gym walls too to tame the echo.

Wow, welcome back to the AV world! That space looks amazing, did Blue Frog figure where the panels or did you place them yourself?

The Panels are up now in the Gym and we’re now finally done in the Cinema with the storage units up on the walls for the Blu Rays either side.

It’s been a lot if hard work but we’re finally done.......

For now 🤣

Looking good. Interestingly I did some research on the Carada BW screen recently I bought one 10 years ago and reviews show its very good on contrast and colour accuracy. I was interested in gain which is some way off the quoted 1.4

I love the Carada screens, IIRC the standard white version I have is a gain of 1.0

it’s so much easier to assemble than other screens I’ve had and they are always ruler flat with no hint of a ripple, even after being stored for months with the material crudely rolled up.

It’s a shame they aren’t about anymore 😢

Lovely home theatre that you have there Steve, why did you decide not to head down the Atmos route?

Yeah I think I might need acoustic panels, but will sort that stuff post build!

Hi mate,

We have - There are speaker cables for 6 Atmos speakers hidden in the ceiling ready to go when the Marantz 8806 becomes available.

I’ve got the front pair of Kef Ci200QR’s installed as front heights connected to my 8801 at the moment and loads of spare channels on the 2nd power amp ready to go.

I can’t warrant spending over £3k on a processor that’s been out for years

We’ve spent that last couple of weeks flocking the walls and Ceilings, I managed to get 6 rolls of self adhesive flock at a good price direct from the manufacturer. For a couple of hundred quid, the difference is astounding.
