Is it possible to connect or convert 2 phono output (from NTL box) to a coaxial digitial input?

The problem I have is the dvd player puts out an optical digi signal that goes into the panasonic TV optical input (associated with AV1) but when the dvd is off this stops the sound from the NTL box. So I have to set the digital input on the tv setup each time when I watch a dvd.

I was hoping to connect the NTL phono to the coax which apparently wins if both are connected, the NTL box would be off if I watch dvd.

    Cheers

you would need quite an expensive converter to digitise the stereo output to a PCM stream.
You would need an A>D converter with encoder and modulator that was compatible with TV's input
