I think Iceland are doing it for £9.99. However, most year's the supermarkets will follow very quickly if one player drops the price. Now I just need a 1.8kg tin of Roses and that's Christmas lunch sorted:D

I was in Asda earlier and they have knocked it down from £10.87 (I think) to £9.87. The iceland deal is better because it is imported stella.

Being a expert stella drinker, I find that Netto are usually the cheapest, and they stock 500ml cans.

Mine you did buy a 8.8 pint keg that you stick in the fridge from Costco - not cheap, but the daughter loved it.........

    Pic to follow

Could someone explain why - when you consider that this is promoted as a premium beer, that it is invariably stella that is on special offer down the supermarket?

I think Asda always have it on offer, lower than all the other similar beers.

It's largely against the brewers wishes. They try to hold the price up as seen in their adverts and other marketing. They usually agree special prices with the supermarkets on the basis of sell X% at £14.99 and then we'll support you in selling y% at £11.99. However, at Christmas the grocers go mental and start price wars on the most popular stuff at £9.99 most of them will be losing money based on my experience last year in the trade. They do it to get you in the store where they can sell you loads more stuff at full price.

The same thing is hapening on big tins of chocs a !.8kg tin of roses is £6.49 in my local Asda and yet a 900g one is £5.99

In the trade this is called a "lost leader" perhaps u make very little or nothing on it at all in the hope that when u are in the shop u will but something else

I was told by a m8 that a our local chain of supermarkets up for sale actually increase the price if something sells well.

He refuses to shop there even with his staff discount.

    Beat that for customer service!!!!!

But for the past few years it has always seemed to be stella on offer at my local Asda - which is annoying as I don't really like it

I'm a bit of a beer whore really. I go for whatever is on special. Stella, Beck, Heineken Export, Grolsh.

I only usually buy by the truck in it's the Grolsh though!

Still, a tenner for 24 X 330cl Bottled Premium Beers is a whole lot better than a couple of years ago.

Recently had a few heavy duty wind problems with Grolsch, if you know what I mean ;)

I've been stocking-up with 24 packs of Becks from Sainsbury's at £10.98. I know it's a quid more expensive than Stella, and the bottles are only 275ml, but I think it's worth the extra :smoke:

    Regards

EDIT: Having said that, been to the pub tonight, and had to choose between a pint of Stella, or a 275ml bottle of Becks, for the same price (£2.60). Naturally, my thrifty instincts kicked-in, and I went for the Stella !
