Evening all. I’ve been looking over my MCU steelbook collection recently and I love the designs of them all but hate the spines on those early designs that just had faces on them (you all know which ones!).

I considered trying to purchase the newer releases but I really like the design of the rest of the steel over the re-release so I looked at instructions on how to swap the spine art.

While doing so I stumbled across these:

Tranche magnétique avec titre pour steelbook / Magnetic Steelbook Spine Title | eBay

I saw some YouTube videos and they look decent so I ordered 2 for Avengers and Age of Ultron.

Have any of you seen these before? Anyone own them?

Yes i have bought from him mate. Thor 2, captain America 2 and 3. The civil war one was the wrong colour but thor 2 and cap 2 look excellent!

Good to hear it. They sound mint and so I thought I would take a chance. Do they stay in place well, even if in a case?? If you can give a thumbs up I might just dive in and buy all the ones I need now. They’re a bit expensive but once I buy these I doubt I’ll need any again.

Yeah they stay still on their own, dont move unless touched. But they do move quite easily once touched, so expect to rearrange pretty much every time you handle them.

Hmm maybe I’ll wait and see what I think of these two when they’re on hand before I jump in and order the rest. Cheers for the honest opinion though.

Are they quite thick so they stick out a bit from the spine?

The ones in that video aren’t, but those are from a different seller. I’m hoping they’re the same.

Yeah they're pretty much like that mate, quite thin so don't stick out at all really. I can't comment for all, but the CW one was a bit thin on the width so i saw the very edges of the original character head spine, which pissed me off... no such issue with the CA2 and thor 2 though, thor 2 especially is literally perfect!

I've been tempted to get the antman and the wasp white spine from him too, the black one on WWA irritates me lol

There is another seller as well who does custom ones from spain, they're cheaper and look good, but they aren't copies of the bestbuy spines here

i bought a few from the same seller, great quality they are pretty thin and fit the spine perfectly, they will move if touched,2 or 3 spots of glue would keep them in place.

Cap 2 and 3 are on the list. I wonder if you got a bad one? If so I’d be getting in touch and asking him to send another. They sound really good, thanks for the description and answering questions.

Those other ones look good but I’d prefer the Best Buy copies I think as they’d match the case I’ve got. What do you mean when you say WWA? I never noticed that Antwan and the Wasp was black until you mentioned it, haha.

Have you been daring to put some glue on them? I’m not sure if I’d have the balls, haha. I’ll see how well they stay in place when they arrive and see if I have to consider glueing or not. Thanks.

Sorry mate, WWA means world wide artwork. So a globally available steel, rather than the upcoming antman lenti at zavvi for example which will not be replicated elsewhere, so is a WEA (world exclusive artwork).

Tempted to try that with my winter soldier one now I've decided on it being the best (imo) version of the steel to keep. Glad i haven't with others though, may hurt the resale.

yea you need to be sure your keeping the steel, but i am not talking superglue, couple of spots of water based glue should come off pretty easy.

Inkjet printable, self adhesive vinyl, works wonders on troublesome spines. Stays in place but still removable if you should need. I’m not an MCU collector but I would image spine designs are easily found.

Ah right I see. I didn’t know those Zavvi lenticular were unique to them, I thought they would be released in a few other countries also.

If you buy the ‘right’ release each of the original MCU run steelbooks the only one that doesn’t have a spine title is Guardians of the Galaxy

Yeah but you’re buying at ridiculous prices along with import tax etc. The regular Zavvi ones have a lot of missing spine art.

If your starting from scratch now the older Zavvi ones could easily be described as selling for every bit as “ridiculous prices” as any of the imports.

It’s not hard to find the US / CA / Asian titles for sale on trading sites and U.K. eBay and avoid having to pay import tax.

And you don’t have to buy a wonky magnet to cover over the spines

I’ve been collecting since 2007 and so it’s much cheaper and easier for me to simply buy the magnets.

Trust me, I've spent a sh*tting fortune sorting out my mcu steels to how i want them, so for the most part i agree on the no magent deal.

Exception to the rule for me is winter solider. The WWA steel, despite having a faces spine, is the king purely because of the bossing and that thick gloss. Colours and finish on the bestbuy and blufans ruin them in comparison, even if they do have front and spine titles. So not worth the money, but to be fair my WS is a Taiwan quarter slip issue that i actually only paid £15 for on ebay, so touch biased :rotfl:

I have been wanting the thor 2 blufans for ages as it's definitely the best, but its so fudgeing expensive and I'm going to quite happily settle for the upcoming 4k steel instead now. Same goes for the iron man trilogy, glad i never forked out for the zavvi lents, the 4k ones will do me.

I would love to be in a position to have steels with actual spines rather than these magnet, I think these are a good alternative to buying the steels again though. Like you with Winter Solder, I really like th designs of the ones I have now, and so don’t want to have other designs even if I could to fork out the money for them.

Random question but did I see that there was a 4K Captain America and Iron Man trilogy steel book out? I can’t find a thread for them anymore, just the individual ones.

There are individual 4k steels, and trilogy bluray steels. I bought and sold the IM trilogy steel, they have nice bossing but poor finish and the spine titles were poorly placed and mismatched to the steels too imo. Advise avoiding.

The only mcu combo steel I've seen that i actually think is nice (and still own for that matter) is the avengers 1 & 2 2D/3D combo steel from zavvi. Fairly plain but its classy, excellent finish, fantastic bossing on the spliced avengers logo on the front and fab inside art. Plus it was like £14 on sale few years back :rotfl:

I wonder if I was thinking of the regular trilogy steels? I think I remember the Avengers one you are talking about...I liked it too but I already had the original ones so I passed on that.

I got the magnets through today. The guy I bought from actually refunded 6 out of my 7 postage fees and threw them all in together. They arrived really quickly.

While not perfect these are a great alternative to seeking out new steelbooks. They’re thin and light and when on properly you would hardly notice they’re there. My only criticism is the colours on Antman and Winter Soldier are a bit off but nothing you would notice when they’re just sitting on a shelf. Also the Age of Ultron has quite large faces printed on the spine so it has to be perfectly placed to cover them properly.

Overall I’d say 7/10 for these. They’re expensive when you buy a few of them and the cost adds up but I’m a lot happier having these than the faces showing.

Yeah the WS one is a little brighter than i'd like, but tbf it's matte going onto a metallic glossy steel, so i understand it cant be matched any better really. That AM one is a diff colour and that'd annoy me. CW one really annoyed me, as the shield is silver and the spine section for it is obviously blue. He does only charge once for postage though, you're supposed to request a total postage before paying lol

most of those look great though, especially thor 2 and gotg.
