Hi Everyone, it’s been a while since I finished my last project, see link in signature, since then we’ve moved to Australia and have completely different house which has a rather nice room on back which was built on a Bali theme by the previous owner, since moving in the room no longer takes on the Bali theme I’ve installed a antique full size snooker table on one side of the room on the other I intend to install a theatre area and this is where I need help, opinions suggestions etc.

It’s my intentions to fit the projector (Epsom LS10500) on the cross beam, this will be approx 3.8 metres from the screen, the width of the breast 83inch, if I can find a screen housing that’s either black or brown the over hang for 100 inch screen will be partly lost when fitted to the wooden battening section just below the beams. I’m also considering also having 65in OLED on wall but not sure what use it would it as I’m really looking for to watching movies and West Ham on 100inch screen

Main seating position will around 3 to 3.5 metres.

I intend to have blackout blinds on all the windows including the Bi-Fold doors, the flooring is a brown tile on a stone base,

The biggest issue I have is the speakers and where to place them??

I was considering having front floor standing with the centre in the middle between the bottom part of the screen and top of the log burner, now what to do with the rears and surrounds as I’d like to include all the current available audio formats.

One thought was using Kef Eggs, I currently have six silver eggs, I would need to get them painted High Gloss Black. I think silver will look out of place fitted to the beams?? but I’m not sure where to position the eggs or should I use another type of speaker.

I’ve upload some pictures that will hopefully get some feedback on how and what to use in the room.

Any feedback would is much appreciated

Have you got any drawings of how you'd like it to finish?

The screen is a bit high, can't you get it lower?

Only in my head, I need to work out how too mange the light from all the windows and bi-fold doors :), at moment black-out curtains in the same or similar colour to walls is winning. The speaker positions around the roof beams is little bit more tricky because of the height and distance to the main seating position.

The screen position is only a temp position for a look see. I plan to lower it around 18inch.

I need to be careful of the wood burner and radiated heat

Repositioned the screen, may go with 2inches lower for it's final position.

Just fitted the new centre speaker

KLIPSCH IN WALL CENTRE SPEAKER R-2502-W II

Sounds good and doesn't look to bad either, the grille can be painted and will be painted the same colour as the wall

Got my 6 eggs back from the Powder Coater, they look pretty good now they're back together. All tested and working OK.

Just one KEF logo to replace one that I damaged when striping the Eggs down

Those Eggs look great in gloss black!

I've seven that need painting, two silver and five in the awful rubberised black. Not a job that I have time for at the minute, but really want them done....

How much did it cost to get these powder coated (if you don't mind me asking) and did they strip and prep them as well?

No worries, I paid $140 AUD, I wouldn't expect to pay more than 100 GBP.

The eggs are little painful to strip down due the the glue they used on the brass posts used to connect the speaker cabling. I had to renew 2 sets.

Not sure if this helps much being as your in the Potteries

Finally managed to sort out a wall bracket and mount. Looks pretty good

Positioned all the 6 eggs, sadly when I fired a Dolby Atmos Bluray (The Wall Live) I got a tizzing noise from the middle right speaker, flipped the left and right wiring and the tizzing still from the same speaker. Oh well other job to do lol

Hi Plaver, interesting thread..... as I’m planning a cinema room. I see you have brought the screen forward and placed the L/R speakers level with the screen. Is this accepted best practice?

the screen is on a breast so it can't go anymore rearwards. Not sure about best practice I've placed the speakers were I think they look best within the room although that could change once I've calibrated the speakers etc

Ok thanks. Battling with wall mounted v floor standing alongside screen or floorstanding in front of screen (Audio listening mode!)

Finally got all the speakers fitted and wiring chased in

Just a quick update, all the speaker (9) connections are now complete.
fullsizeoutput_437.jpeg

Even without calibrating the sound, I've only used my ear and a sound meter. I have to say all the formats including Atmos sound f'ing brilliant!!!

I finally got my hands on Oppo 203, sold the Panasonic 400, see the unboxing lol

Finally decided on the wall colour, screen wall took 3 coats for good coverage and also resprayed the wood burner.

Just a small updated, fitted up the cinema signs:
fullsizeoutput_520.jpeg

It's been a while since my last update, 2019 wasn't good year and I was glad to see the back of it, now starting to get back to normal and getting jobs done. Finally got the blinds installed. I opted for blinds rather than drapes because I would have had so much material it would have look a mess with different drops etc..

Have a look at the blind and let me know what you think

Once the travel restrictions are lifted I'll finally get the last job done 'Calibration' would have been tomorrow but South Australia closed there border on Tuesday which meant my calibrator couldn't travel to me in Victoria.

A little update: A lot has happened in the just over year:
Finally got the projector calibrated and then this:
Invert driver board failed, Just over $1800 for a new board.:mad::mad:
when used as desktop image OK:):)

Then just after Xmas the Bulb exploded (or Poped):(:confused:o_O
Renewed the bulb, then a this a happens couple of weeks later,:mad::mad::mad:less than 100 hours on the new bulb

This was the last straw, This is Optical Block Failure. This alone $7k to repair
$12000 projector scrap after 4yrs use.

I know people will probably think I'm mad but I decided to go out an buy one these
