Hey guys and gals i am going to be getting Season 1 of Stargate as after reading up on it i think i might enjoy the show (so far any TV show dvd set i have got i have loved!)

I was just wondering if there is any difference in the regions e.g is one better than the other, whats the packaging like for each region etc :)

Just wondering if i should go R2 or R1 in all honesty.

I saw a guy who had the Duch versions ? (i think they were Dutch, they were a nice silver casing) just wondering if thats an option i should go :)

Cheers
Sam

OK,

Now when the dvds were relased, they actually started with a best of set which included the uncut first episoded. This was an 18 cert DVD and contained full frontall nudity. This was not the version that was shown on sky one in the uk

This dvd was an introduction to the series and then had the last couple of eps of the first season on it.

The dvds were then relased in order with 4 eps on a disc from the start of season 2 onwards.

A latter box set of the season 1 discs was not released untill much later.

All stargate SG1 discs can be viewed in my collection by clicking on the MY Movies link in my sig and scrolling down the list. :)

The pic quality of the shows in the first relases is a bit grainy and not all of the discs had 5.1 surround sound. The later seasons pic quality improve dramaticly and all the later realses have dolby digital. I bought all the seasons when they came out individually. you can now buy them in box set form however and it works out a lot cheaper.
A couple of links to amazon below will give you an idear of the prices now.

The discs did cost around £15.00 new.

you can now pick up whole season box sets for just over £20.00 , quite a saving.

I dont know if there is any difference between the region 1 and 2 sets in pic quality ect.

But , if you do a search for stargate here......http://www.dvdcompare.net/

you may get some more info on any differences.

The Dutch Region 2 Boxsets include the exact same discs as available in the the UK but they are alot cheaper, are released 6 months before the UK sets and have better packaging, at least I think they do :)

Overall though I would say the R2 DVDs are the ones to get as Season 5, 6, 7 and 8 have extras not available on the R1 DVDs.

where do we get the dutch ones from indy?

I believe its http://www.dvdzone2.com/

Indy, are http://www.dvdzone2.com/ pretty reliable then ? whats the delivery time like etc :), oh and how do they come packed, i mean is it a box or a jiffy bag.
Yep that is the company I used and they are as good as Play if not better as they respond to emails within hours.

As for delivery time, I had my SG-1 Season 8 and Atlantis Season 1 Boxsets sent on a Tuesday (release day wasent until the Thursday  ) and recieved them on the Friday which was a nice suprise.

Lastely they sent the Boxsets in a cardboard box with extra bubblewrap and charged me all of 4 euros which I think you will agree isnt bad for two boxsets sent via airmail.

Its very cheap indeed for airmail and proper packaging, not the cheap ***** Play use :(

The only thing i was confused about on there site was they had 2 versions of some of the sets
e.g some said FR/NL others were just FR and another was just NL, my guess would be i would go for the ones just with the NL next to them ?

That had me confused at first but it just refers to the language on the packaging, FR means just French, FR/NL means it has both French and Dutch and NL means just Dutch.

The ones to go for are either the FR/NL sets which have the episodes listed in French down one side but in English opposite or the NL sets which just have the English names for the episodes.

Best to warn you now, to complete the spine art you really need to buy 'The Best of Season 1' as well as the Season 1 Boxset but that is only if you want the spine art to match up otherwise you can just get the Season Boxsets like you would in the UK
