I always get excited for Star Wars games and they invariably disappoint. KOTOR being the only exception. Fnigers crossed for this because it looks great.

You talking about the physics or the graphics? That demo wasn't about the graphics mate.

    Both !

Don't see anything special at all with those two clips. All I see is some SW characters being thrown at some wood which splinters a bit and break's into a few sections

The orginal Cell tech demos with multiple ducks with realtime physics interaction & the thousands of leaves flying around in 3 votex columes showing interactions and real time rendering of satellite to Topography data to create a 3d landscape in real time. Now that was impressive.

But it wasn't scripted or animated - it was all calculated in real time with the A.I showing an uncanny urge for self-preservation - that's the real difference they we're showing and what differs from last gen...

I wasn't too impressed with the mud deformation tech demo for MotorStorn either - but that turned out OK in the end....

psikey, that stuff is all being calculated in real time... None of it is pre-coded FMV, it's all being worked out on-the-fly... Meaning that no 2 games will be identical... Normally you'd see the stormtroopers with their arms outstretched, and if they hit the beam it'd break into pre-programmed pieces... Now, the beam will splinter exactly how wood will... It's seriously impressive!

I was more worried about the strength of those beams... some serious wood worm going on there I think that needs looking at, someone could get hurt.

I'm a bit perplexed as to why people aren't impressed with it, this is proper AI in a game, nothing scripted etc, at least give your reasons

They aren't impressed because they don't understand the purpose of the demos and what they are trying to show.

I liked how one tried to save the other by holding on to him but the wood broke and they both fell that's some great AI being done there which bodes well for the full game.

At last. Developers are looking to use Cell not just for shiny graphics but greatly improved physics and AI. This looks extremely promising.

The only thing that worries me about the physics is how heavy are the stormtroopers supposed to be if it only takes one of them to break a 2ftsq beam?

Also, did they have to throw R2D2s at the plywood?

That actually made me laugh, two stormtroopers frantically clinging to the beam and then the developer throws r2d2 at them, dunno why but just made me chuckle :D

Thats very clever stuff going on there, just hope they can implement it correctly into the game.

I've just read the preview for this on Eurogamer and it looks really exciting. It's a shame that it won't come to the PC though and even a Wii version hasn't been wholly confirmed.

Not going to happen. it's too early in development for that. The fact that no solid details have been revealed about it suggests it's a long way off. Probably late next year at the earliest I imagine.

Wow those are great! I especially love the one with the R2 D2's being chucked at the plywood. The physics and material properties are just stunning and so realistic. :)

A lot of effort seems to have gone into the game but i don't want to play as darth vader's apprentice, i want to play as darth vader!

Also, I want to play an updated 'dark forces' or 'tie fighter' on the ps3 - they would look stunning and gameplay wise - fantastic. I really desperately want to play a space combat 'sandbox' style star wars game (not on-rails/scripted like rogue squadron). Even a millenium falcon sim would do. Come on lucasarts/other developers:mad:

And you do get to play as Darth Vadar for a bit.
