Star Wars - General Thread

So, I've never seen the "original" Original trilogy and feel i need to correct this before Ep9. I'll be needing the Despecialized Empire Strikes Back but have a choice of either the Despecialized or 4k77/83 of the other two (in 1080p disc format). I've seen some comparisons and the only conclusion I've come to is that the DNR versions of 4k77/83 are nasty. Can anyone who has seen both the despecialized and (Non DNR) 4k77/83 advise which you think is better?

I am pretty sure the silver screen edition (of Star wars) is the same source that they used to scan in 4K too, either way it is a great version in 1080p and all the lovely film grain is intact. Apart from that, the de-specialised editions are pretty great too.

4K scans of the original cuts exist and are in the wild
I'm pretty sure that Gareth Edwards said he watched Star Wars at the Lucas ranch in 4k, the original cuts. So maybe Lucas was fibbing when he said the only version of star wars is the special editions?

There is a rogue fan group who acquired a neg cut a crowd funded a digital intermediate

I think it's a given I'll buy them all again if they're in 4K next year. (Although that's pointless for AOTC and ROTS).

Disney know they're going to make an immense amount of money if they put out the original trilogy prior to the special edition changes. I've seen comments that Lucas had clauses in the sale contract to say they can't release the originals but I can't see them not doing that at some point. Lucas did include the originals in one DVD release with inferior sound and picture so he did allow them to be released after the SEs. Maybe a big box set of the 9 films next year.

Anybody got a recommendation for the best Star Wars film to watch?

I have watched them all but not for a few years so I want to dive straight back in but not sure which one to watch?

Thanks

Personally, I think I'd go Rogue one, New Hope, Empire and finish with Return of the Jedi.

Don't bother with any of the others.

edit:
Solo, Rogue one, New Hope, Empire and finish with Return of the Jedi.
and agree don't bother with any of the others.

In that case, put Solo 1st so you don't break up the end of Rogue/start of New Hope - Also, Han is about 10 years younger so Solo should be a while before R1. 👍
