Well I have just received my Bargain Copy of ST4, The Directors Cut, and it set me thinking: When will ST5 The Directors Cut be released. A search on Google gave me a Petition to sign to get Paramount to actually do this! Is this petition now out of date?

So, will there be any more Directors Cuts or is 4 the last one?

    Anybody have any more information?

    Thanks

    DaveP

Shatner gave an interview Feb/Jan this year where he said Paramount wouldn't fund it a re-edit and he was putting together an SE set for the film as it currently exists.
I'd like to see his "ultimate" version, but I still like it the way it is now so I guess I'll live.

The humour was not right for a trek film and the scene where the ship reaches the other side where the god planet exists was far too short and should have been more tense with more special effects sequences personally id like to see a proper directors cut and considering how much money star trek has made for paramount i think spending a few million is justified

I wouldn't call it "pedantry" Confucius, I would say it was accuracy :smashin:
I think in many ways Paramount have caught out many people with III & IV because people went out and bought them presuming that they were going to be the same as I & II.

I just can't imagine what they could do to STV to make it into a decent film - most films you watch you can see where there is room for improvement, but STV is just so utterly terribly hideously awful that nothing other then remaking it with new screenplay, new sfx, new director, new everything would suffice!

Actually there is one redeeming feature - Jerry (the master) Goldsmith's score :smashin:

    Ooooooh, that's harsh.
For me it's a guilty pleasure. In fact, it's so guilty it should be doing life without any chance of parole:zonked:

Urgh, ST V is utter, utter pants. My least favourite film of the series. A pox on Shatner for thinking he could direct.

You'd think if Shatner was that keen on seeing his fully realised version of the film released, then he'd trump up the money himself!
I think most of what he was talking about adding were visual effects, which I guess would be cgi these days & they're supposedly relatively cheap.
How many millions must he be worth?
How much is he going to take with him when he ventures on his final voyage?
If it was me & I was seriously disappointed with something I made because it was rushed or had insufficient funds to be done properly at the time then I'd correct it if I could.
The film was a critical failure & he seems to be trying to avoid carrying the can.

    Cheers, Paul

Probably best to wait for the 10 film boxset, if it will include the special (director) editions

Dsw182 - Yes, but I won a copy of the present 9 movie box set in a Comp and you dont get the bonus disks that come with the 2 disk set - can't see Paramount being so kind as to release a 20 disk set (Movies + Bonus Disks!) can you. Stick with the double disk sets and be patient!!
