I know the announcement by paramount to release the 2 most recent star trek movies on uhd in june was made a while ago now..

However I'm looking to buy the into darkness copy on uhd, great film, but also a 4k master and the imax version will be on the disc according to the release statement.

Now both films are listed for sale on wowhd Search results for Movies/TV : "Ultra hd" but there are 3 copies of into darkness, at 3 different prices with no real difference in descriptions.

I emailed them and asked and they gave some bollocks about one being bluray, another 3d bluray, and the final in uhd.. which is rubbish as all 3 are listed as uhd.

The only differences i can see are both films have a base version at £24.64 that have the same 3 format deal every other release has. Then another version each like £2 more with 'dubbed' in the description, which is probably the bilingual version also on amazon.ca .. But then just into darkness has a 3rd version at like £29 just saying wide-screen and ac3 different in the description, which every film has anyway..

Now if the most expensive version of into darkness is infact the imax version, cool im fine to pay £4 more for it. But it was my understanding from the release statement that just an imax version of into darkness will be released and a standard version of the first chris pine star trek film would be released. So i dont want to soend more for the same thing but i also don't want to faff about returning to America if I've not bought the imax version.

Anyone have anymore information regarding different versions of these films being released? Wowhd are great on prices and availability, but bloody useless when it comes to information.

Just had a look at Bluray.com and it lists the two movies but not much info, also a listing (but no release date) for 'Wrath of Khan'

I would imagine (or hope) that there will be just the one 'Into Darkness' UHD and that will have the Imax Footage.

The WOWHD listing is a mess.

It is a mess isn't it. Well from what i've read I think there is just one IMAX version of into darkness.
But then it's got me thinking what the hell this 3rd version they've got listed is..
I mean if its just fancy packaging ICGAF, but if it's imax or perhaps both star trek films I'd pay it.

Importing is always such a mixed bag. Really irritating if you're not sure.

I emailed wow to see which one to go for but got this weird reply

We regret to inform you that we have a very limited 4K inventory at this time so for those movies we recommend going elsewhere. We apologize for the inconvenience.

    Bemused to say the least!

I am sure that within a week or two of release the irrelevant listings will disappear and if you happened to order one of those now removed listings your order will be cancelled, has happened to several people recently.

At this moment in time the new BD of The Wrath of Khan has three listings and the Jaws sequels have two listings each, as said above quite a mess.

Cant see them going belly up, their customer service are just morons and don't know. Thats basically the response 'if you require answers for these items quickly we suggest you look elsewhere'. Bloody wierdos.

They won't be going belly up, they are just another outlet of a US company along with ImportCDs, AllYourMusic and several others.

My only issue for these titles are, are they gonna wait till everyone has ordered a copy overseas and THEN announce a UK release.

But either way the cheaper/earlier release is always gonna be the winner.

Why is it an issue if we're getting them both cheaper and earlier than a Uk release?

Because I feel if sales dont take off in the UK and we stop selling over here (unlikely, I know) that having to rely on import doesn't sit well with me.
I like to buy from bricks and mortar every now and then, less returns hassle, no lost in the post/damaged box issues, etc.

The cheaper/earlier comment was more for the majority of buyers. I would be willing to wait 1-2 weeks longer and pay a 'tiny' ammount more if I could pick them and others up over here.

The Ultra Hd bluray business won't come to a stand still in the Uk because some folks are importing blurays.

If you're happy paying more and waiting longer - feel free to do so if you feel you owe the Uk market

Which is why I said unlikely :D

And also a tiny amount more, and a 1-2 week wait maximum. I'm sitting here just about to press play on The Revenant , I just like to buy from a shop once in a while. I guess thats why releases like Salt and Pineapple Express will come in handy when/if there's a price drop or sale.

Anyway back on topic, looking forward to these ST titles in UHD HDR.

Not going to hurt sales in what was always going to be a niche market as almost all buying into this format will be the enthusiast market. region free is a bonus for a new format and studios won'tcare a hoot on where the product is purchased from. Just total sales of said product , either way as a consumer we now the buying fron where ever option comoared to BD .

If I purchase these it will interesting to see the improvement over the HDR versions I have on the Samsung HDD I purchased from the US a while back .The versions on the HDD are an awful mess of a picture and simply unwatchable .

Are these getting a Atmos mix BTW ?

Both films, or the two versions of the same film? The cheapest versions (£23) say dubbed in the description so I'm a little wary of ordering them.

Just tried checking with wowhd about which version of these were which so i can make my preorder before theyd be dispatched on friday.

All im bothered about is if the £23 version is actually 'dubbed' in another language as the listing may suggest, or if it is in english. As i don't really want to pay £1.60 more per disc for the next odd price bracket up if i don't have to.

    Not that i expected a helpful response, but they sent this back;

"We regret to inform you that we can not check our inventory as we do not have any yet on the shelf please check back after the release date."

Currently trying to decide if it's worth risking the hassle of having 2 discs (possibly dubbed in french) needing to be sent back to the US over £3.20.. Hmm.. :rotfl::facepalm:

One come with Movie Cash, the cheaper one doesn't,Movie Cash is a promotion that can be used in certain US cinemas.
The dubbed i would worry about to much,it sometimes means their an French or Spanish dubbed track on the disc, for the Canadian French market, and the US Spanish market.
They will all come with an normal English track DTS master/ DTSx or Dolby Atmos track :)

No obviously not worried about the movie cash bit, it was the dubbed that concerned me. There is a bilingual version on amazon canada, so I'm probably to assume it'll haveva french dubbed track. You're pretty positive that despite having a track dubbed in a different language it will also have the full english atmos track as well?

I'd find it odd to be noted as dubbed at all in that case as I'd assumed most blurays came with multiple language audio options so it wouldn't really be that individual imo. French and Spanish are very standard languages. Unless of course perhaps having multi language tracks is normal for me as i buy EU/UK discs normally, perhaps that's not so standard in the US?

I have the Canadian version of In the Heart of the Sea,it come with the English Dolby Atmos track, they sometimes put dubbed, to also sell to the Spanish market in the US,it is the 2nd most spoken language in the US,and French because its Canada other language.
I very much doubt WOW-US would just sell an dubbed version.
A few years ago i brought a couple of dvd from Brazil,it was the only country i could get them from, both came with their English tracks.
The only times you can be caught out is if the its the original language of an movie, and is just sold in that country :)
