last night i found out that a mate of mine has NEVER seen STAR TREK! he watched the Kirk years and then NEVER watched anything else. Hes never seen Voyager, TNG, DS9 or Enterprise.

hes in his mid 30's, uses the t'internet and is a fan of Sci Fi.

In gen chat i've opened a holodeck thread. I was talking to him about it when he said "whats a holodeck?" i nearly fell over. :D

do you know anyone who hasn't seen it?

Talk about Stunned!!!

He cant be THAT much of a Sci Fi fan if hes never bothered to watch a single episode of TNG or DS9 etc...

These shows are practicaly on all over the world!

Never having watched Star Trek is fairly common, but someone who calls himself a sci-fi fan never having watched a single non-old-series ST episode, that's definitely unusual.

I could understand if the person in question was female.
But the ladies all fancy Patrick Stewart as Picard. :)

There used to be (probably still is) an entire USENET discussion forum dedicated to that topic - alt.sexy.bald.captains - and there was another one called alt.wesley.crusher.die.die.die which was a sentiment I agreed with at the time. :)

Is there any particular reason why he has never seen the other series of trek?
Didnt like the look of them, didnt have the time, never fanced them ect?

MY god, Has he seen Battlestar
Hi,
Im the sheltered individual in question

The answer is I've never really had the time tbh. Only sci-fi series i've ever regularly watched is Red Dwarf (or is it sit-com?) and thats only cos its been on at a time when im likely to be vegging in front of the box, well that and the fact it was a truly brilliant show.

I like sci-fi but I wouldn't call myself a 'fan', its really only feature films for me. Dvd profiler's sci-fi filter returns 64 titles from my collection and all are films with the exception of red dwarf.

And its a big fat no to Battlestar Dave, couldn't even tell you what channel or time its on  :D

Its time to turn you... to the dark side.

First thing to do: Take a month or so paid vacation.

Next: Get a DVD player if you dont already have one.

Last: Get all 7 seasons of TNG, DS9, Voyager, First season of BSG+Mini series (2003/4. Not the original) As well as all the stargate SG1 Seasons and Atlantis.

Thats just for starters.

I must be strange for a woman then. I've seen all of the Star Trek series and have season passes for New Generations and Voyager on my TiVo so that there's always a few episodes recorded for me to watch. I can't wait to see the next series of Battlestar and I'm dismayed that Firefly was cancelled but I'm looking forward to the movie. I've also watched all of Stargate and Atlantis and numerous other SciFi series.

However, I must admit that I do posess a few pairs of shoes and a hand bag. :)

I'd recommend al the Star Trek spin offs, Farscape, Space Above and Beyond, and Firefly.

TBH Farscape was a fantastic series - well missed and Firefly is surreal

I have never seen Farscape, sounds like I may like it after all. Why Firefly was canned I will never understand, I just pray that the movie Serinty will do well and re-instate firefly as a series again. :lease:

TeresaTT, go girl go... :smashin: nice to see females liking the sci-fi as well as the shoes and handbags.

Whats the secret with the shoes and handbags. They dont have buttons, flashing lights or lcd screens on them. I always ask my missus this question but never get a real reply.

  Donations will be gratefully received :D

Unfortunately the bottom line is I just don't have the time :( Currently failing miserably trying to watch series 1 of Nighty night (a piffling 6 episodes) so I can get round to watching series 2 which my Tivo is currently recording.

@Dave, are you absolutely sure about the battlestar thing? :D

I did watch the trailer and will admit it looked good :smashin:

We need handbags because womens clothes never have big pockets on them. I need my handbag to carry my iPAQ hx4700 pocket PC with 5GB of flash card memory.

This means that in my handbag I have a diary with several years entries, lots of lists, several books to read, a dictionary, many games, local street map, TV remote control, a handful of calculators, several thousand photos, video clips of the kids, a movie and mp3 player. I can even surf the web via wifi.

Just seen this thread.
Never seen any trek since the first series - can't be many in the TV viewing western world who have managed to miss all those episodes on all those channels.
Hang on, has he been stuck in a pattern buffer all these years maybe ?

This has got me thinking. I consider myself a big sci-fi fan, got a ton of movies on DVD, was addicted to Voyager and think Battlestar is the best thing on TV right now. Also working my way through Firefly, really enjoying it.

But I've never seens an episode of DS9  Or Farscape or Stargate for that matter.

So I suppose I have to admit it, I'm not a true geek, how shameful

When I think of all the time I've wasted watching The Sopranos and NYPD Blue.....

Farscape - the first TV series to get the two main characters in bed with each other in the first series.

Also took everyone back to Earth and didn't pretend it never happened - basically just like real aliens had landed.

Farscape was very character driven 4 series & 1 mini series.

Just buy the lot!

Well if your naming sci-fi series worth watching I would say Babylon 5 has to be one of the best in present years.

And mixed weekly stories with one large one that more or less spanned all the 5 seasons.

Nooooooo, DS9 was amazing - the best acting, writing, and drama of all the Treks (imho :) ). I also found much of Voyager, and almost all of Enterprise to be a waste of 45 minutes, they were that cack! (again, imho :D )

Firefly was great, pity there isn't much of it, looking forward to Serenity though.

Harsh Realm's worth taking a look at - though is another prematurely cancelled series which had no real closure. Something not strictly sci-fi, which I found quite engrossing, was Millennium - though the third and final season was somewhat disappointing - all three boxsets were going for about £15 earlier this year.
- Harsh Realm and Millennium (both from X-Files creator Chris Carter) benefit from Lost's Terry O'Quinn starring in them.
