Final Frontier was badly directed and Kirk spoke words that he never would have in the past and the first one was so slow.

    How about a poll dfield2000!

..could not be arsed seeing last one!

Before you say anything, I LOVE 'Motion Picture'. OK not because its particularly a good Star Trek film but as a Science Fiction film its great and I love the slow pacing and the sense of grandieur and epicness of it all. The others seem like TV shows in comparison (if you get my drift!)
The whole story arc from Wrath of Khan to Undiscovered Country is great (except Final Frontier of course which was not in thar arc)

Have warmed to The Motion Picture, particularly the new Director's cut. As a matter of fact it has aged better than any of the other earlier movies. Agree with WEIRDWOLF that it is definitely the most cinematic of them all.

I feel that the themes and plot of the movie, in addition to the way in which the conflict is resolved, are closer to the spirit of the classic TV series than any of the subsequent movies. While not being the best movie of the bunch, I feel that it is the most "Star Trek" of them all.

Indeed compared to "The Phantom Matrix Regurgitated: Episode 2" and such like, that are dished up as Science Fiction these days, it's veritable Shakespeare!

Can't we do polls on this forum?

    Anyway........

    First Contact
    Wrath of Khan
    The Undiscovered Country
    Voyage Home
    The Motion Picture
    The Search for Spock
    Insurrection
    Generations
    The Final Frontier
    Nemesis

To me, the first three on my list are way ahead of the others in all ways, although I do agree with the comments on this thread about The Motion Picture.

Also, as a Star Trek fan most of my adult life (certainly for the last 22 years) nothing saddens me more than what has happened to my franchise.

The Next Generation was very good, and Deep Space Nine was perhaps the best series of any kind to appear on television in the last thirty years.

Sadly the rot set in with the appalling Voyager and now has been cemented with the excreble Enterprise.

And if nemesis was indeed the final voyage of the Next Generation, then the cast and fans of this excellent series were terribly short changed. I got bored with it at the cinema, bought it on DVD, and had to force myself not to turn it off. Absolute tosh........

I have just completed my collection on DVD of TNG, will finish my DS9 collection this year, and complete my region One movie special edition collection. Then, as far as I am concerned, my Star Trek days will be over.

    And that saddens me...... :(

Funny, I take the opposite view - I thought DS9 was unwatchable, but I really like Enterprise... :smashin:

I think the Star Trek franchise post Roddenberry has "fans" in both camps. You either love them or hate them. During Roddenberry's era there was the unending optimism of the franshise and now there is doom and gloom ala Babylon 5. Now that is not a bad thing, but the die hard Trekkers see this as an infringement of the Star Trek Universe, and thus begin to dislike the later offerings of Voyager, Enterprise et al. I personally like everything from the TNG series onwards and only like a few (a significant few it has to be said) of the Original Series. I think all of the films try to carry the banner but they also have to recoup the costs of Paramount in the production of a major motion picture and as such detract from the basic ethos (however slightly) of Trek. Some dislike that, but as long as you keep Roddenberry's vision in sight most (including the most disliked "final Frontier") stick to the Trek principles in general if a little waylayed along the way.

The Top Three films are pretty much written in stone, but the rest are the most "discussed" and the most argued about which is the worst. This is because they are probably post Roddenberry and thus didn't have his grip on how they should proceed within the Trek Universe. Rik Berman et al have done a superb job under the pressures of producing a motion picture but I'm not sure if Roddenberry could pull it off under the current Studio guidelines. Indeed would he even attempt such an undertaken if he couldn't do what he wanted to do with the Franchise; He was a strong willed individual after all; having shaped what he wanted to do in TOS despite Studio retiscense. i.e. the first on screen inter-racial kiss, the first on screen "good" russian "Pavel Checkov" etc

Anyway, judging by the vote so far the worst franchise film isn't certain meaning we all like most films most of the time! So the studio can't be doing too bad a job can they? Apart from the endless re-releases of all the films and TV Series. Grrr!

Roddenberry had no creative control of any of the "Star Trek" movies, except for the first.

Sorry, but I totally disagree with you there. I am / was a die-hard trekker, and DS9 was my favourite Trek series - and that was hardly a massively optomistic show. They don't come much darker.

No, I don't like Voyager and Enterprise because they are badly written, badly acted, and they mess with the continuity of the show. I mean, come on, how demeaning was it to introduce a sex object into Voyager becuase of falling ratings?

I appreciate that people have different opinions, I am merely stating mine and mean no offence to anyone by it.

I was more interested in how people ranked their favourate films, rather than a poll which would just show which single films were people's favourate (if you know what I mean !).

If someone want's to start up a poll then that's fine with me
    :)

I think that my order of preference for the films changes as I watch them - for example - I have only seen Nemesis once in the cinema and once on DVD, so it's still pretty 'new' to me, so if I was to watch a Start Trek film tonight I'd watch that and get quite a bit of enjoyment out of it - but after a certain amount of viewings I'd probablly get tired of it and it would slip down my list.

It would be interesting to see which films come out top in the poll and then compare that to the box office ratings.

These four I can watch whenever and enjoy them, especially the top two:
    Wrath of Khan
    Undiscovered Country
    First Contact
    Generations

Watching Motion Picture depends on my mood but, as other have said, I can tolerate the new Director's Edition a lot more.

As for the others, they are all pretty meh. I can watch them, but I don't go out of my way to do so.

Can I start the poll please? I have nothing better to do.

I have to say I hated Star Trek Generations when it came out - I was really into The Next Generation at the time and I was really looking forward to their first movie - what a disappointment! :thumbsdow

    1 - Wrath of Khan
    2 - First Contact
    3 - Voyage Home
    4= - Generations - Undiscovered Country
    6 - Nemesis
    7 - Search for Spock
    8 - Insurrection
    9 - Motion Picture
    10 - Final Frontier

The Wrath of Khan had so mouch emotion, the action was almost not needed, but with the action, it was fantastic.

The First Contact re-invented the Borg. It made them scary but with style and it had the brilliant idea of making the most famous person people in the federation look up to, Cochrane, a bad dancing, heavy drinking bloke with a crap sense of humour.

Lastly, just have to mention Generations for having one of the best crashes ever and final proof spaceships need seat belts.

I think my list would be:

    1. First Contact
    2. Star Trek - The Undiscovered Country
    3. The Wrath of Khan
    4. Search for Spock & Voyage Home
    6. Insurrection
    7. Generations
    8. Final Frontier
    9. Motion Picture

Haven't seen Nemesis yet so can't comment on that.

As for the TV shows; my favourite is still TNG, followed by DS9, then Voyager, then OS and finally Enterprise.

I am trying to give Enterprise a chance, but every time I watch a decent episode it is followed by so many complete crap ones, it makes it really hard to carry on with it. Plus the increased amount of T'Pol shots in skimpy clothing seems to me that they are running out of ideas and just doing the obvious.

As for Voyager, it was OK, the 7of9 part was good, but the final seasons were just so poor, too many crap episodes and the final episode could have been much better.

    My Fav's,

    1 - Wrath of Khan
    2 - Search for Spock
    3 - First Contact
    4 - Nemesis
    5 - Undiscovered Country
    6 - Voyage Home
    7 - Generations
    8 - Insurrection
    9 - Motion Picture

I could not put the Final Frontier in as No10 because it is a poor excuse for a film never mind a Star Trek film, what the hell was Paramount thinking releasing this drivel they totally lost the place big style with this one I've seen better special effects on Doctor Who.....

Pity there will be no more, I will miss them dearly.

I think Paramount need to pull something radical out of the bag to ensure the continued success of Star Trek movies.

What I would do if I were Mr. Paramount is basically go back to the beginning and re-invent the wheel.

Take a long break from the Trek movies, let "Enterprise" finish, and make a BIG budget, highly publicised return to the big screen with the first ever voyage of The Enterprise under James T. Kirk, with new actors taking the roles of the classic cast.

This could be a major event with a "name" director and a larger budget attached, and perhaps could be a pre-cursor of a new "classic" Trek TV series, not of re-makes, but brand new adventures of Kirk, Spock and McCoy.

Don't forget - we only got three years of that original five year mission...
