I still can't believe that they're giving up on the TNG franchise so easily!

Seems to me the people involved in Nemesis made a balls up, killing off a much loved character and having some convoluted story about a cloned sheep or something.

Get some decent writers and a director on the job and make a new TNG film in the style the fans want.

If there's one thing that Enterprise proved it was that trying to do a prequel is doomed to failure from the start. Especially, as in this case, if you try to use new actors to play some of the most recognised characters in TV/film history.

Honestly, how much do these studio bosses get paid?!

This is going to be utter utter pish.

No one can play kirk other than shatner.

A young captain kirk? good god he was on in his thirtys when he was in the original show. How the hell is matt damon even going to be anything like him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and here is the teaser poster. It is official and was revealed at comic con

Interesting ...

Although i would rather see a completely new TV series that takes place after DS9 and Voyager :(

A completely new "USS Enterprise" and crew would be nice !
And the return of Seven of Nine

Entirely agree. Setting a series in Kirk's era would be a serious mistake. I absolutely hate the Original Series - very dated (IMHO).

Personally I would like to see a series with the 'depth/darkness' of DS9 coupled with the mobility of TNG featuring an Enterprise F patrolling the 'neutral zone' during a war with the Romulans.   However as i thought Nemesis was actually a very enjoyable Star Trek movie I am probably not someone who Viacom should listen to. :(

JJ Abrams has been mentioned as being potentially involved with ST 11. He's a very creative individual and has a lot of clout at present. Personally I'd love to see a younger Kirk, Spock & McCoy bickering their way around a retro ST TOS universe.

Give it a go I say. It's not as if they can fack up the franchise any further is it?

Bring that on!
Not sure I agree with there assessment. TNG ultimately far exceeded the success of the original series (which was ultimately cancelled after 3 years) and hit it's peak (and it popularity) when it moved away from the dated relics of the original. If a 'reboot' is proposed then that is where it should occur.

There was nothing wrong with the recent Star Trek series - I just think audiences were a little 'maxed' out on Trek. 7 series of TNG, DS9 and Voyager meant stories were becoming repetitive. Now we've had a little break I think a new series, set after Voyager, would be well received.

Hmmm.. the only good i can see coming from another star trek at the moment is, if it DID do well, and perchace kick started another series of trek, other film studios/tv companies may think.. Hmm Sci-fi is cool again (not that it wasn't, but you know how these companies work) and take a look at thier IP's and see if they have something they can put out .. I'M LOOKING AT YOU FOX!! (cough) Firefly (cough)

I'm not too sure with Matt Damon as Kirk. Also, I wonder what kind of style this will be, the slightly humorous tone of the TV show or something more dark akin to the New Battlestar...

I can't see them picking well known actors for any of the rolls. It pushes costs up and any sequels would need to be fitted into their schedules. I would think that they would pick a bunch of unknowns instead.

Agreed, or they certainly should.

Don't forget that, with a few exceptions, the Star Trek actors that we all know and love were unknown when they got the part.:lesson:
