    Found this out earlier today!
As a massive Kubrick fan I am just a tad excited.
I already have the original R1 DVD boxset that came out before the R2 but the general opinion was the R1 set was pretty poor picture quality, oh and didn't include the excellent "Life in Pictures" documentary.

The chance to own these film in remastered HD is good but they are also loaded with extras. Commentries on all of them and lots of new/unseen extras. Not exactly sure when the UK will get them, October too?
I knew Stanley Kubrick would never have done a commentary if he were alive today so these are extremley good news. I have put a link below, scroll down a bit for the details.

Need to go off and buy a HD-DVD player now. :D

    If you want this thread to remain on the board if I were you I'd replace the above link with the one from the official Warner Bros press release;

    http://www2.warnerbros.com/web/corpcomm/press_release.jsp?id=WHVDirectorsSeriesStanleyKubrick

Reason being threads are sometimes deleted that link to competitive forums.

Also if I'm reading this correctly, the 10 disc collection is only on DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray titles are available as singles only.

Just re-read the details and I think you are correct.
The 2 disks special edition appear to only relate to DVD and not HD/Blu-ray
I guess in my excitment I missed this glarely fact.

Still the DVD set still looks great and it will give me an excuse to replace my old R1 boxset.
No doubt in a year or so they will release the special edition disks on HD

Not to worry, the HD DVD/Blu-ray will contain all the same features will just all be on the one disc :D

The previous release of Full Metal Jacket is taken from a 1080i master. One assumes that this new release will be a pure 1080p transfer.

Thought I would re-kindle this thread what with the recent reviews coming in for the 2001, CWO & The Shining.
As I am currently waiting for my EP35 from Play.com I was wondering if 'Barry Lyndon' has been released yet? If not does anyone know when?
Not by any means my favorite Kubrick film but one which must surely benefit from the HD treatment. The film is beautifully shot with the possiability of huge amounts of detail.
Having recently watched Ridley Scott's 'The Duellists' on DVD (which looked stunning I must add) I am keen to see more of these types of period dramas.

    Thanks
    :)

Damn you! You got me all excited about the prospect of Barry Lyndon coming out on HD-DVD!

Out of all of the Kubrick films, after 2001, Barry Lyndon is the one I want to see in HD the most! It would be simply stunning

    :lease: WB!

Now I have just received my Toshiba EP35 (and very pleased with it so far)
I am trying to find these Kubrick disks.
I cannot see them on Play.com or in any other high street stores like HMV and Virgin.
Is the only placed to get one is to import them?

Please help me I am desperate for these disks!

    Thanks

Can anyone confirm whether the US version of The Shining on HD-DVD is region free?
It says on the play.com site that it will only play on a US HD Player?

Also I guess this version is the longer US version as opposed to the shorter but in my opinon better European version?

PlayUSA.com insist on telling everyone that the HD DVD, whichever HD DVD it happens to be, they are about to order will only work on a US Machine :nono:

It is region free as all HD DVD are, my US version played fine on my UK E1 :)

Another Barry Lyndon fan! Some people are bored to tears by this film, but I just love it... I'm also looking forward to an HD-DVD release -- any news about this, anyone?

Sadly these days very few people are willing to sit through a "Slow and boring" 3 hour+ film. It often gets overlooked when talking about Kubrick's best films. It's my personal favourite after 2001. Every part of the film is a delight to look at.

    NEED HD RELEASE NOW!

Warner Brothers obviously have it ready, as they restored all the films for the last Kubrick Collection on DVD. If the DVD is anything to go buy the HD release should be stunning!

does anyone know if the R2 version of this box set (SD) which is due for release on 03/03/08 is going to be full 10 disks the same as the R1 version or not?
ive looked for it on play, hmv, virgin etc but it seems to be listed as only a 6 disk version... :lease:
