Are bookshelf speakers the same as standmount speakers ?
Nope. Bookshelf speakers are a little smaller (sometimes called mini monitors)
Standmounts are usually around B&W 601 size, bookshelf Kef Coda 7 size.
IMO there are 4 types of speakers relevant to this Forum:
Satellites, Bookshelf/Standmount, Floorstanders, Subs. A couple of centimeters in height doesn't change the basic form of a box.
I don know, but put bookshelfs on stands to
Bookshelf is B&W 600s3, PMC DB1, ProAc TR8 sort of size, IMO.
I think a lot of people who feel constrained into buying sub/sat combos for space-saving reasons could get away with bookshelfs, at least for the front pair.
Just because I do so love controversy.
Technically, there is no such thing as bookshelf speakers.
Do you release how bad small stand mount speakers sound on bookshelfs!!!!
They sound great on my foot-thick, granite bookshelf.
I think the real difference is that some speaker designs are intended to be used close to a rear wall (hence bookshelves are OK) and some need open space (hence standmount). I recommend you consult the dealer or manufacturer when auditioning. Personally I reckon all speakers sound best in open space.
