We all know that there are currently a few multiformat DVD recorder drives available but does anyone perhaps know if there is currently a multiformat standalone DVD recorder capable of burning both + and - discs .... if not is there anything in the pipeline.
Secondly, does anyone perhaps know if there is a standalone DVD player / recorder (dual/side by side) where one simply inserts the DVD to be recorded from in one side and the blank media in the other and then hit the record button.

Sony have such a machine out - it records to DVD-RW/-R and DVD+RW (not DVD+R or DVD-RAM). It also only has limited support for DVD+RW - but your not really missing much as DVD-RW is fully supported (VRO mode etc). It's good machine, if somewhat expensive. A cheaper version (but essentially the same) will be available in the new year.

No - and it's unlikely to happen due to copyright protection. The ability to dub from DVD-R to the HDD on the HS2 was disabled for this very reason. Non-protected stuff can be copied by hooking up a DVD player to any DVD recorder but it won't copying if the stuff is copy-protected. As I understand it copying DVDs is not an 'allowed topic' on this forum.
