I want a smallish CD player which will be used as a source for headphone listening (via decent headphones & headphone amp) to sit next to my PC.

I hope I can just get a standalone CD player or if not a small CD/AMP unit.

Any recommendations for a budget of £150-200?

Small, quality and if possible mp3 as well.

    Thanks

    Steve

I had the Denon D-M31 in mind as you can get it without speakers, but it's not mp3. Next thought was the ADV-M71S though DVD reviews of the CD playback are favourable, can't find it without speakers though and pushing outside the budget.

Hence the idea of a CD player only. As it's sole use would be playing CD's, but nice if I could use a CD of quality mp3s as well - improvement over PC.

Marrantz 7300. Dunno if that's too expensive but that has mp3 playback and seems like a really good player :)

Rereading your original question, it looks like a portable is the obvious answer. Is there any reason you would rule one out? I believe most recent ones will play MP3, and you have the obvious advantage of being able to use it for more than one purpose! Quality should be OK if you get one made by one the usual suspects.

Teac PDH300 or PDH500 would be small (ish) seperates within your budget!

Thanks for the feedback, sorry for not responding sooner.

Still not sure what to get yet but no hurry. I'm tempted to up the budget and get a good CD player like the Cabridge Azur 540/640 but will need to make sure the Mrs is OK with yet another purchase.
