First post so please be kind :)

I've been thinking of getting a RP TV for ages as I just don't want to spend over a grand for a 36 inch CRT. The tosh looks like a good buy at about £1200.

But, because I am limited to space, if I did get an RP I would have to put my other kit (amp, dvd, vcr, cable box and maybe cd player) underneath it rather than to the side. I'm trying to find a stand which is wide enough and strong enough to support the TV and is high enough to hold all my kit but isn't so high that it puts it out of optimum height.

I've had a look at Ikea and Argos but cannot find anything suitable. I'm even contemplating spending more than double the price of the tosh for a plasma so I can have a nice neat and tidy living room!

Please let me know if you know of a suitable stand for a 42 inch RP or if there is an official toshiba one available.

    TIA.

could you use a normal 5 tier audio rackto hold all your gear and let the tv sit on its own cabinet.or is that just to much of a tight squeeze you could have the av rack next to the tv.

Unfortunately there is no space. The TV will not be flat against the wall. Imagine a square room with the tv in one corner facing the other corner diagonally. There is no space either side of it to put the amp etc so it has to go under it (i don't want to put it on top either). With a CRT it's ok cause it sits on a stand which holds everything. But with an RP the stand i have now will not support the weight of it and it will raise the height by far too much. I could get away with just 4 bits of kit and two of them are quite slim. The stand would need to be able to take four items, two stacked side by side and they would be about 150mm high.

I'll have another look round ikea or somewhere cause there must be something suitable.

I'm pretty sure Toshiba will make a stand for your model. I've got a 46WH08B and I bought the Toshiba stand with it (as an extra). It was expensive for what it is, but it like you I wanted all my gear underneath.

Toshiba do make a stand. I brought mine from Electrocentre in Soho Road, Birmingham for about £150/£170.

It is big enough to get 4 units in 2 x 2, ie video, Sky box, DVD, and A N Other but amps are generally too big.

It raises the TV up too much for my wife's liking. I have now moved my amp and DVD 10 metres away and just have the Sky and video underneath. I will be cutting the cabinet in half, height wise. It has glass doors which will need specialist cutting. it is a nice piece of kit though, fits the exact profile of the TV all round.

You can usually view them in Currys/Comet, but they will want £200 for it plus they won't serve you!

Thanks for the info Peter. I just had a look in the index catalogue (and website) and the toshiba cabinet/stand is in there at £200 (only if you buy the TV though). I've seen the tosh for 1170 plus 135 for the stand (can't remember where though!) which is the best price for TV plus stand I've seen.

23cm high sounds ok. Looking at the pics I estimated that it would be about 30cm as it looked like it was about a quarter of the height of the tv itself. But the smaller the better really as long as I can fit my kit in. I have a slimline amp and dvd which should help to fit it all in.

The stand raises the TV 23cm off the ground.

The internal space is 19cm, and 80 cm wide.

The £135 price was Robertsons online or similar. Seems like a good price for the TV.

I am going to cut mine down as it makes the TV too big. However without the stand the TV is too low. The screen is quite directional, so if you look down on it standing up it is very dark. The stand helps this.

I brought the Dolby Digital TV, but have wasted my money because since discovering this forum I have spent a load of money on an amp (which I was hoping to avoid) because you need external front speakers

Thanks again for the info Peter. I've had a measure up in the living room and I think the TV will be ok without the stand as otherwise it will be too high. A shame too. I might just get one anyway and send it back if it doesn't fit in.
