Are the connectors pushed fully home ?
    Have you tried different leads?
Have you tried pulling off one at the time to hear which channel is causing it?

The 3 sockets are component (red green blue) video

You need the 2 Audio (red/white)

Are you sure you are not using the white audio AND the red component video by mistake ????

I think i am getting the same sound on my LG HR902TA system. Fine playing DVD's but when i use SKY and i have on certain sound settings i get squealing in the rear speakers. If i have the rear speakers on constantly then i dont get the noise. Does this sound the same?

If your DVD's are fine (playing in 5.1 with no squeeks) then it could just be the unit struggling with pro-logic decoding a stereo source. I used to have an old system that used to do same when fed a stereo source and tried to use surround/pro-logic effects. It was fine with 5.1 from dvd and optical inputs but with stereo input there was always a low volume squealy/squeeky noise underpinning what else was coming from surrounds.
