I was having a quick browse through the BBC news sight and clicked on a link showing "Iconic Rock(music) images"

    Link

see if you can spot the glaringly obvious ( to me at least ;) ) picture that should NOT be there.

...... what on earth was someone thinking?

Surely only numbers 1 and 2 deserve to be in there (and 3, but it's strictly a reggae moment not a rock one!).

Sex Pistols? - bunch of talentless attention whores
PJ Harvey? - Squawking skinny woman with poor eye makeup abilities!!
    and of course, Justin Timberla-aaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaa!

    :D

I know it all gets debateable with some artists - and sometimes peoples tastes mean they can't accept certain acts.

But all bar 2 of those artists have made an massive impact on the music industry and society.

You might not like Black Sabbath, but their music changed the industry and spawned new bands and music styles for example.

The Sex pistols in your example had a massive effect on the music industry - helping spawn the punk movement ... and its future re-inventions..... whether you think they were tuneless gits or not.

Pj Harvey, whilst not being as seminal as Jimi Hendrix for example, she is still a critically acclaimed artists ... and for some, during a period in muscial history, she could be classed as Iconic ( thought I did question her being there myself )

..... what I could not understand was a picture of a teeny bopper star with no real musical talent - someone whos simply a comercial artist factory produce to make pre pubesent girls part with their parents money.
It definately seems like an insult to the works of the others.

I wasn't just the use of the word 'rock' ... more fundamentally it was the use of the word 'Iconic' + 'music' and a picture of 'Justin Timberlake' .... along with a picture of Hendrix. .... but I know what your saying ( there are more contradictions there than you can shake a set of Bez's marracas at )
