i wasnt sure where to post this but thought this was where people in the know would be so here goes.
im pretty new to av and am getting a home theatre together slowly, the two things that im in the dark about are spl meters, what do they do and will i need one for a home theatre dedicated room?
also iv seen a lot of people with wall padding like this http://www.whateverwayproductions.com/bin/images/stub.jpg
    what does it do?

    thanks in advance

A sound meter is a great investment, it ensures the speakers are correctly setup, which is very hard to do by ear.

As for the panels, these are designed to control the acoustics of a room. Have a look at http://www.rpg-europe.co.uk/hometheater.htm for more information.

You could have a look in the room acoustics forum - there's lots more foamy stuff there. :hiya:
