probably been asked before, but i am about to purchase an spl meter and was wondering was a digital one worth the extra expense, or will an analogue one suffice?

Analogue is supposed to be more accurate, but because digital has a large display it's more easily readable from a couple of feet away.

Whether or not the digital one is alot less inaccurate or only slightly out- dunno about that.

I have the Radio Shack digital one (cost £20 or £30) when Tandy were closing down their shops.

I think the digital one has a couple of features the analogue one doesn't have- it has an average, minimum and maximum level.

I've always used the analogue. It seems pretty accurate, even when using the output to connect to a PC running analysis software: pretty close to and audiocontrol RTA after applying correction....

<english>its pretty accurate, even when directly compared to a few grands worth of audio signal analyser with a +/- 0.5db calibrated microphone, as long as you allow for its innacuracies which are shown on the correction graph in the manual that came with the meter.</english>

I have both the analogue and digital sound meter from Radio Shack, there is really very little in it, other than they all read differently!

adox - please let me know where you are getting your meter from and how much you paid. The only one I have seen is a digital one from Maplin for £50.

    Thanks
