Yes, Thor blows it out of the water. This a solid 5-6 for me. Too much Iron Man and a pretty weak villain, I thought. MCU can easily look pretty tired now if it's done by the numbers, but at least there was no repeat of the origin story.
Endless reboots covering up a huge lack of inspiration . This has nothing to do with entertainment just another over-the top Marvel cash cow. Even Holland hasn't got the skills to carry this one just blown away by Garfield and Maguire. Didn't like at all 3.5/10
Was so bored I had to watch it in two parts. Really didn't feel that it was anything special, even within the MCU, and had neither the mature drama of the Garfield films nor the overt energy of the Maguire films. Near bottom of the MCU list next to Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor: Dark World.
I would probably give this a 6, just couldn't connect with it at all.
I didn't like the talking suit, didn't like the Iron Man connection and didn't really like the Cap cameo (just felt completely out of place post Civil War). I get that he's newly Spidey in this, but does he have to be quite so bumbling incompetent.
The Amazing Spiderman and the first 2 Raimi movies were much better than this.
Must say I enjoyed this more on this my second viewing having seen it first at the cinema, I thought it was great, it seemed to play much better on second watch, I watched it on 3D Blu and it looked fantastic, even some of the darker moments still looked good especialy the last 15 Minutes, I also thought Michael Keaton was excellent as The Vulture for me he was a really good villain, my favourite Spider-Man film is still Spider-Man 2, (Sam Raimi absoluley nails that film IMHO) I do not think this film nails Spider-Man completley but it has some good humour and some great action scenes but it comes across as more Ultimate Spider-Man than original universe Spider-Man which is probably what they were aiming for. Good Stuff.
My third time watching it,
First time at home on UHD though...beautiful use of HDR & lovely colours.
Sound was very good much better than some recent Marvel discs.
Film itself gets better each time for me it’s up there as top tier Marvel, it’s just so charming & fresh, modern and so much damn fun!
Bought this triple pack UHD, BD3D & BD from Amazon France https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B073VQYMPR/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. If you aren’t bothered about English language on the packaging this is a good deal. Most of the discs are English language for menus, if not you can figure it out, and the language is English with no French dubbing or subtitles unless you want to enable it.

I watch for the first time last night and it definitely not the Spider-Man that got me into Marvel comics. Its as though someone wrote it without knowing anything about him apart from crawling walls, shooting webs and having aunt May. Then someone came along and said where so and so, so just tagged names on charterers even though nothing like then from the comics. If you're not going to make the characters anything like the ones in the comics don't name them after comic characters.
Liz cared very little for Peter. Flash was a big lad who played American Football and was not that bright and bullied Peter. And it seemed as thought they had to get in ethnic diversity in but goodness me could not even get a brunet in for Betty or a redhead for Mechelle why the name? Oh and Peters mate just has to be a computer expert.
The best part of the film was like Iron Man Jr rather than Spider-Man and as for the villain Spider-man was the biggest villain in the film he should have just let the Vulture get on with it as at the end of the day he did less damage apart from a screw up(OK some of the stuff may have done more).
a shop wrecked and some guys livelihood, loads of people's houses damage, loads of cars wrecked could run into the millions, a ferry load of passengers lives put at risk, plus the sinking of the ferry if Iron Man had not intervened, National Monument damaged and again lives put at risk, city at risk and countless lives due to a plane crash and said plane destroyed.
In Civil War Tony Stark was against unauthorized action and yet here he is helping someone causing destruction on a grand scale.
Peter charters wrong, he's a nerd but very bright, this Peter an immature kid with delusions of heroism.
If J Jonah Jameson had been in the film for the first time in 50 he would have been right Spider-Man Public Menace.
Again they seem to been a vast amount gone into trying to get jokes in at every opportunity.
also first Tobey Maguire Spidey film in it. For Adrian Toomes read Norman Osborn, Vulture read The Green Goblin
The good: good 3D and the vertigo bit gave it me as well.
I think the problem with films today is they have to be brought "up to date". Had they set this in the 60's and not had the techie suit, then this was Spider-man through and through. However, because in reality he's NOT the Spidey we all grew up with then Marvel have free licence to take their characters in whatever direction they see fit. This is the Marvel Cinematic Spidey - not the one who used to wear the specs and share his British comic with a Thor story when it first appeared in the 70's over here.
I hated this the first time I saw it - the second time I took my 7 year old grandson and his face was lit up all the way through and I guessed he must have been feeling what I did when I first read those comics 40 odd years ago. So I looked at it from a different angle - cinematic Spidey brought up to date. Loved it the third time and I'm looking forward to the "Spiderverse" that Marvel are bringing us with Tom Hardy's Venom next year. Now that has got to be better than Sam Raimi's version that he was forced to knock out by the studio...
As uptodate I don't think Spider-Man had a tech suit in the comics now or at least I know he was still using the same powers hae was back in the 60s. He sometimes altered the costume but always went back to the original.
Spider-Man in a jr Iron Man suit just not Spider-Man you may as well give Hawkeye Yodu powers so he does not have to use a bow.
