AAAAAAGGGGGHHHHH! I've just written a 1000 word reply to this explaining what a bargain these PC's are and why I can't speak highly enough of them. Unfortunately it got lost when I tried to post the reply...

Essentially they're a bargain, queue up behind me in an orderly fashion please.

If you want to know more please ask, I have had a couple of them and they kick.

As far as HTPC use goes the only negative I can see is that the case may not be to everyone's taste. I am building a test rig using an Accent case at the moment which fits in better with Denon stuff I have. It may be worth transferring the guts of the medion to a nicer case? I've not tried it but I believe the new motherboard is an MSI PT8. Find a case to suit?

I have read a German test which puts this card somewhere between the 9800 non-pro and the pro. I tried to find it again but I ran out of time.

Try searching for variations of Medion, 8080 XL and 9800XL and you'll find quite a bit of info on it. I used the google translation feature to read the reviews..

I think the 9800XT is ATI's current flagship, essentially an overclocked 9800 Pro with the potential for dynamic overclocking using the latest drivers (i.e. the drivers adjust the performance of the card according to the current PC operating temperature).

Sounds like MSI aren't using the ATI reference design (ASUS are another), but the MSI cards sounds rather under-powered compared to other 9800XTs out there (also seems to be unique in having only 128Mb RAM rather than 256MB). For example, the Hercules cards are:

9800 Pro (128MB): 380MHz core and 340 MHz DDR RAM frequencies

9800 XT (256Mb): 412MHz core and 365 MHz DDR RAM frequencies

Perhaps MSI are cutting costs by using cheaper cooling in their own design, so have to run the chip a little slower?

The ATI site also seems to suggest that 9800XT is the flagship model (as would the cost of the cards  )

Aha - my mistake :clown: I was thinking that the ALDI machine was a bit of a bargain, when an XT card accounts for about half the cost! :suicide:
