Hi, I'm after a new universal remote which can also be used for power control (generally taken as the rf plugs for the wall socket).

I have a Kameleon URC8308, which although I haven't bought the extras yet, can be used to control power sockets using an additional receiver. problem is that the remote is generally terrible quality and most of the buttons are very unresponsive.

So I'm after remote which can be used in the same way and preferably has a nice display or touch screen similar to the Kameleon.

    Any suggestions welcome.
    Thanks

No universal remote can control rf anything.
If you can get IR controllers for your devices any Harmony will control them.

I'm not necessarily looking for an rf controlling remote. As I said before, the Kameleon uses a separate receiver box. This receives the IR signal and then sends an RF signal to the socket.
A similar setup would be ideal, just not One-For-All as the quality is crap.

yeah, was looking there already, the 1100 + RF extender is the only thing that looked similar, but does anyone know if the RF extender is just that, an extender. Or can it actually be used to control RF sockets for power control?

Their use of the expression RF Extender could be misleading, as no universal can control devices that have original remotes that work by RF.
With a 1100 you can select for each device whether the commands are to be sent either direct to it by IR, or first by RF to the Extender and from that or its emitters to it by IR.

Because "if you can get IR controllers for your devices any Harmony will control them".
You said "I'm not necessarily looking for an rf controlling remote".

They're more often RF, but I think there are a few that are IR.

That's not entirely correct. Certain Pronto NG/marantz universal remotes have RF and can control HomeEasy and Byron RF Home Automation stuff. Whilst you can't buy those remotes new, you can find them on ebay and other sites. I bought mine via the classifieds on here!

Look here for the HomeEasy code generator.

The Pronto models that can do this are - Phillips RU950, RU960, RU970, RU980, RU990, Marantz RC5200, RC5400, RC9200 and RC9500. I use the RC9500 to control RF Sockets & Lights. (don't be tempted by the US equivalents as they won't control RF stuff in the UK)

I've just done a search on google and found this for sale.

It looks to be brand new (old stock maybe) as it is a REALLY low price but still has 3 years warranty.

I'm sorely tempted just because it is so cheap! But I don't realy need it. They are excellent remotes (equivalent to the Philips RU960/TSU3500) and providing it is european spec (433MHz RF) then you can control HomeEasy directly out of the box, no adators or anything, just a bit of programming! I have the colour version (see my avatar) and it is excellent!

I've never heard of that company so do your homework first, but if that is genuine and is new old stock it is really good value.

    Just food for thought :smashin::smashin:

That is a bargain price for a Marantz RC5400. Only 1 left in stock.
