and any advice you'd be so kind to offer...

Building myself a new home workstation: video editing, Film res 2d compositing bit of simple 3d too

    Asus P4G8X deluxe
P4 2.4Ghz (will upgrade to faster hyperthreading cpu when the price comes down)
    x2 512M crucial PC2700 (possibly 2Gb worth)
    500W enermax PSU

Radeon 9700 (to follow later: initially using a geforce2 GTS)

decent ata133 drive until ata150 settles down or I decide to go Raid.(more likely)

This setup will not be overclocked to any degree most likely: stability is very important. I thought about corsair xms ram instead of the crucial but its twice the price for I suspect minimal improvement.

Running primarily W2K : possibly have linux and XP also.

    Sound good Keith.

I'm very happy with my Intel D845PEBT2, but did concider the ASUS (and the Gigabyte), I'm sure it's a great mobo. Stick to good old Crucial memory and Segate Barracuda drives, you know it makes sense.
