I know that on these forums it is easy (and tempting) to try and get others opinions but in reality how the kit is installed in the room and the general room acoustics will influence the sound just as much as the kit you have so without hearing it we really are commenting out of ignorance and not much more than preconceptions and perceptions based on the kit list.

Can you get better - probably - can you get a lot worse - probably.

The speakers seem to be well matched so how does it all sound to you when you fire it up and watch a movie / listen to some music?

The only thing that really matters is if it sounds good to you.

Agreed. For me they sound ok . If i used them/installed correctly by the hc rules and after visiting this forum for more than five years, i tempted as you said to talk about my system, i am adicted what can i say. I know that a lot people here know more than me and always try to learn more if i can to do better.
    Thanks for your reply!

If the Speakers 'work' in your room and you have the upgrade bug I'd look for an end of line Yamaha AVR a notch or two up from your current model.

If you have a friendly local Dealer possibly you can arrange a home trial.

7.1 only works if you have the space behind the seating position - otherwise 5.1 or 5.1 + presence or the New 'Overhead/height' channels (+ a suitable Atmos/Auro-3D/DTS:X enabled AVR) is a better option.

It all comes down to the room/room layout.

    thanks again.
the room is long enough, about 7m long and 4.5m wide
the tv/pj screen is on 4.5m wall, the center speaker is in the middle, and left and right 20cm away from front wall, 80cm away from side wall, so they are 2,9m apart, the presence speakers are supported on small brackets(3cm away from front wall) that can be adjusted to toe in/down at 2m from the floor 20cm away from side walls.
the surrounds are at 2m high from the floor, 4.5m away from the front wall

I sit at 4.3m away from the front wall. I have a four seated couch facing the front wall. the back wall is about 2.7 from the couch.
all surfaces are hard, except the furniture, floor ,ceiling and walls are rock solid. I have to much echo. the room is very alive. things are getting better in winter when we use a carpet 3x4m.
I use ypao to calibrate and the results are good because the levels are 0 for most of the speakers. just the surrounds and presence are +2.
the crossover I manually take it to 80Hz, I find it on 120/160Hz after ypao.
after I use an spl meter.

    what you think?

'No reply why?' Folk are working, enjoying the good weather, on holiday, don't have an answer... :)

Keeping your carpet in place 'year round' sounds like your first permanent 'upgrade'.

Some spare speaker cable and experiment with 7.1 vs 5.1 + front presence will let you know which option works best for you.

It's no bother - just not on here 24/7, though it feels like it some days :)

and I actually meant how realistic is the Yamaha 7.1 with dsp sound elevation, I don't know if I say right, to recreate the presence speakers or 3d sound.

If your room will allow it and you are looking to upgrade I'd be looking at Dolby Atmos/Auro-3D or DTS-Neo:X

Which will require a new AVR and potentially some overhead speakers.
