    Hi All,

I was looking for some advice on which speakers to get for my Yamaha RXV373, currently I'm using speakers from my old Aiwa NSX-AV540 system with no sub, it’s a bit meh!

The choices have been rounded between the Q Acoustics Q7000 and Q2000i 5.1 packages. Budget is about £500 but don’t mind stretching it another £200 if it’s worth doing ;-)

The person at Richer Sounds said that the Q2000i would be better for music and Q7000 for movies, is this true? how much does it really matter?

I'm keen to hear your ideas, whether you have this set up or if may be I'm over looking something better?

Sorry if my questions are a little noob...I'm still quite new to all this :p

    Many Thanks!

He is probably right in terms of the 2000i being better with music due to their bigger size but not sure I agree with them being not as good with movies. If you have the space for the larger 2000i speakers then they are the ones I would go for.

    Thanks for replying!

Yeah I would have thought they would be just as fine, its a shame I cant get a full demo. Richer Sounds offered to demo a pair of Q2020i so can at least get an idea of what they will be like.

I have noticed that the Q7000 used to be priced above the Q2000i so have wondered if they are may be more higher end? The new Q7000i are about £800!

The 7000i are a lifestyle package so you tend to have to pay more for the same performance you would get from a conventional sized speaker set. This is because you tend to pay a premium for lifestyle packages and you are also fighting against the laws of physics. So if you need small speakers then get the 7000 otherwise look at more conventional sized speakers.

ok now that makes a little more sense, thanks again!

Went into Richer Sounds again and saw the Q7000, they look pretty nice and that sub was huge! but the salesman was keen to show me the Cambridge Audio Minx S215 (they really like these because this happened to me last time I was in there!). He was also recommending the Monitor Bronze BX1's rather than the Q 2010is, to me they sounded similar but I can see that the BX1's have a little more base in them. What's the general opinion on the ones he was showing me?

Luckily he did demo the 2010i and they did sound really good

Cambridge Audio is pretty much a RS brand only in the UK which may explain the pushing of that particular speaker. To be fair they make good value for money amps but not sure how great their speakers are. The BX1 is also a good speaker and around the same sort of quality as the QA if not a little bit better. I am not a great fan of Monitor Audio speakers but that is my personal preference. Since you have now heard them all you can let your own ears decide which is best for you. Buy the speakers you liked the sound of best and at the price you want to pay and you will not go far wrong no matter what any of us say on here or the salesman.

no wonder why they keep trying to sell that, the moment you mention speakers they jump on them!

So its looking like the Q2000i at the moment, however another question has popped to mind....how much better are the 2020i compared with the 2010i? I can see that they are slightly bigger and have better base etc but are they worth that little bit of extra money? is the difference clearly noticeable?

If so, I may go for a staggered set up, start with the 2020i fronts and get the 2000Ci, then get the 2020i rears and sub further down the line.

If you go with the 2020i speakers then just use them up front, you'll not need the extra bass extension associated with the 2020i at the rear and 2010i speakers will suffice. The sub will be dealing with most of the bass anyway and there's little benefit to having speakers that go much below 80Hz, although they can be handy if listening to stereo music without utilising the sub.

Considering the 2010 go comfortably below 80Hz and the 2020 only go a few Hz lower than the 2010 then I am not sure you will really get any benefit from the 2020 over the 2010 in a home AV system to be honest.

hmmm, will think about the 2020i fronts and 2010i rear set up..its not actually that much more expensive than the basic 2000i package. As I'll be using it for music too I guess that little extra bit more from the 2020i could be better at times I don't want the sub on etc
