    Hi folks!

I'm waiting on delivery for a beautiful 40" HDTV, so I've been reading up as much as I can on home cinema set-ups in my spare time. I've bought myself a mint-condition second-hand Sony STR-DH810 receiver (review) and a PS3, so now I need help deciding on speakers and a subwoofer.

I would be using it mostly for watching films, but also playing music and playing games via the PS3.

Am I right in thinking that I would be best off with an active subwoofer with this receiver?

The TV and set-up will be in my lounge, which is in a pretty small flat, so I've decided that 2.1 (with the option of 3.1 later on) is perfect. I don't want to annoy my neigbours by going 7.1 (not that I have the budget for it)!

My budget is a max of £300, and so far I seem to be leaning towards a Wharfedale Diamond 9 package (here).

Suggestions and comments would be most appreciated! :)

You won't be able to use a passive subwoofer with all that anyway - there'd be nothing to power it, the receiver only outputs a signal which is supposed to be used by a power amp.

More speakers doesn't necessarily mean louder - but I'd say that going above 5.1 could be a bit of a waste.

Anyway, the Diamond 9 package is a good deal, however the MA Vector (which was £299 for the walnut at one stage..) would probably suit you well too.

It might still be available here, call and check if it looks good to you.

Thanks for the reply, sergiup! Clearly I still have a lot to learn about audio tech. :$

I've ordered the Wharfedales - very much excited to get them set-up! :D
