speaker wire

    How many strands???? is the mnimum requirement for good quality speaker wire?

    From one to many!

    Some people advocate using 2.5mm2 twin and earth mains cable for speakers. I've used it, it works fine, but it's a sod to get it to lay flat! Ususally 2.5mm2 flexible cable wil have around 80 strands.

    Basically it doesn't matter - the electrons won't care either way.

    so why do people quote it when seeling the speaker wire?

    You've no idea what you're buying. If you look on the cable section of this forum, a little way down the page, you'll see guides on how to make you're own high performance cable from dirt cheap CAT5 cabling.

    Because speaker cable being speaker cable, there's naff-all else to say about it!
