I find that I can hear the sound from a speaker best when it's at ear height/level from my seating position. I have the mission cinema 7 speaker package with the fronts being floor standers, is it unheard of to place floor standers on stands to raise them to the (my) required height. Does anyone else have this opinion? Or should I get to the Doctor for a session with a syringe? Or should I just sit lower in my seat?

I see no reason why you cannot jsut raise the height of the speakers. What you use to do this i am not sure.

Do it. I the hate the standardized dimensions of things made by manufacturers. It's a false convention to me. Get them up to the height you want. Use low stands, concrete slabs, bolt them to the wall high with brackets if it helps.
We are herded into 'set' dimensions with things like that, and like you, I prefer things a bit different when it comes to stands.

Here are a couple sites that I posted on anouther thread asking about speaker stands. Several companies make subwoofer stands that may be ideal for floorstanders. http://www.audioadvisor.com/browsecategory.cfm?CategoryID=SS for speaker stand designs. I'm not sure if they ship to the UK.
Parts Express has a much smaller selection but they do ship to the UK: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showprod.cfm?&DID=7&CATID=49&ObjectGroup_ID=515
These folks make nice stands: http://www.studiotech.com/stands/hifi.html
And so do these folks: www.wood-tech.com

At least it will give you a couple ideas, you may want to borrow a design and buid your own.
