I've been going out of my mind during the last couple of weeks trying to decide on a decent speaker / receiver setup for home cinema & to play a few cds. Reading plenty of posts on this excellent forum has confused me to the point of my brain imploding.

The receiver i require must have audio delay, cos im connecting to a plasma & 2 component inputs minimum as i will connect my xbox & dvd player to it.
A nice extra is automatic setup.

The receiver i had in mind was the denon 2805 - about £550 or Yamaha 1500 or 2500 (from germany approx same value).

I thought i had decided on a set of canton movie 10 speakers but when visiting a local hifi shop they told me that i should be spending twice the amount of money on the speakers as the receiver.

He suggested a bose system with multiple cubes i think it was acoustimass 10 - £800.00. This would blow my budget just on speakers alone.

Would the receiver be too much for the cantons?
How big a difference between the cantons & bose?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

This is a personal preference, but I would avoid the Bose if I were you. There is greater bang for your buck elsewhere.

Have never heard the Cantons so can't comment, but what are you looking for, floorstanders/standmounts/ sub/sat?

I wouldn’t necessarily go along with the assumption that you should spend twice the amount on speakers than the amp, but certainly imo you should spend more on speakers than amp.

i agree about spending more on speakers (but not on BOE as they will waste the money spent on AMP.....) as the AMP will be a media HUB for future plasma then 50-50 split on AV amp speakers is fair........ if you like cantons look at CD2.22

The CD 2.22 look great, I was thinking of ordering these from Germany at one point, but didn't have the guts to go for a blind purchase.

Try AV Sales in Kent though, as they have the Caontons to demo and are very friendly & professional

    Thanks for the advice.
Your right the canton 2.22 do look the business.
At £700 it is still outside my budget but I may have to do the ironing, washing, hoovering, wining & dining for a while to soften up the wife.

    cheers
