    Hello

My particular little problem is that I've recently moved into a new house and have set up my HC in the lounge. However the sofa obstructs the ideal place to position my speakers. So I'm looking to either purchase or build some plinths to place them on.

My speakers are Acoustic Energy 109's (floor standers ~20kg each) and I need to raise them up about 40-45cm to clear the arm of the sofa.

Has any one any ideas how/where I can purchase such Items or what would be the best materials to use if I end up building them myself?

This will pave the way forward for a PJ, screen & new Sub so Im a bit keen to get this one sorted:D

There may be some stands that are premade that will fit the bill, but they'll probably be designed for bookshelf speekers, so the floorsatnders may be inclined to topple over due to their extra height.

You could build some boxes with a similar footprint to the speakers, fill them with sand, and put spikes on the bottom. They may be more stable du to the extra weight. Many stands already come with the facility to be filled with sand or lead so they be suitable.

    Gary.

    Thanks Gary

It looks like that will have to be the route I go down

    The speakers footprint is

    230mm x 290mm (including supplied base)
    180mm x 240mm (without base)

Using the second option definately would give me stability worries!

AVF speaker stands Argos catalogue page 634.
    Item 4.
Very versatile, very well made and when not in use the stands can be lowered behind setee and her in doors will be happy
Visit their website-they do other similar stands that are not in Argos.
    £27 for pair-equilavent Bose stands are £124.
Two types of mounting process-flat on platform or hanging bracket.
The quality and versatility for the price is astounding.
