Speaker Placement help needed !

Owing to room layout and space restrictions i find myself wondering if i can get away with placing floorstander speakers (monitor audio bronze 5's) on top of a glass topped audio unit ?.Will it affect sound quality performance etc etc . i was thinking of placing rubber mat on glass first or does anyone think this will work ?. Any thoughts ?

height of speakers 850mm after placement on audio unit approx 1360mm from floor level

I would never place floorstands on top of another unit as you will move the dynamics of the speaker well above ear level when sat down.

My suggestion would be to look at a better pair of standmounts for the same price.

For the same money, you could look at the following speakers to bring them more in line with your room constraints whilst keep the musical levels similar

Definitive Technology Demand D7,
Tannoy Revolution XT Mini,
Monitor Audio Silver 2

For a little more you could also add these to your list
Quad S Series S1,
DALI Opticon 1,
Monitor Audio Silver 50

All of these speakers are very good musically plus they will all deliver more sonic ability. You could also add the Kef Q Series bookshelfs to this list.

With the stands, I would look at short ones or maybe thin one which can squeeze in either side of the cabinet (something similar to these, these can be had shorter).

How sturdy is the glass topped unit? Is it heavy? What sort of flooring do you have?

thanks for the replies guys, guess i'll go with wall mounted bookshelf speakers rather than the floorstanders. was thinking of monitor audio bronze 2 package or something similar
