    hey folks :hiya:
I am looking to get a TEAC ref 300 mk2, 45w per channel.
The speakers I was looking at were Mordaunt Short 902's or Wharfedale Diamond 9.1's. Anyone any experience with either of these speakers or brands even?
Also looking at B&w 601's and KEF Q1's. again any info.
I am hoping to get a demo but if not I'll be farting in the wind with my choice so any info is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Its been a long time since I auditioned the Q1's, but they sounded very good for the price - excellent midrange. The B&W 602 S3 is a better allrounder than the Q1, but if you are not into rock or party music, the Q1's are better IMO. Both appear quite regularly on e-bay. You could get yourself a bargain if you went the secondhand route.

    Cheers,
    Nirmal. :)

    Focal JMLab 705s/706s
Kef Qcompact/Q1 or the new iQ1/iQ3
    Monitor Audio B2
    AE Evo 1

Diamonds 9.x are nice but need a powerfull amp (low efficiency)

Back in 1993 I bought my Denon D-100 hifi system with stock Denon speakers.
I year after I tried my 1st choice of awarded speakers and was awfull with the Denon.
I settled until today with a pair of Celestion 3mkII.

So you must go listen! :lesson:

    thanks nirmal and falp
I know I NEED to demo the speaker setup with the system I have chosen but that is easier said than done. Sevenoaks audio is in Glasgow and I think they're my best chance to hear the system with different speakers. They don't have wharfedales though. Only expensive brands
Regarding the wharfedales being low efficiency, would the 45watts per channel not be enough to power them well enough? Or the B&W's?

    Thanks for info

Get something what 88~90 dB efficiency.

    I have 88 with 40 watts.

    hey :hiya:
thanks falp will look into that
I found somewhere where I can demo the B&W's, KEF and Wharfedales on the TEAC system. Although by the looks of things it will be B&W601 or KEFiQ1's.
Will let you know how it pans out.
Thanks for the advice guys :smashin:

I think I would prefer the KEF's or any of the listed except the B&Ws...

    I bought my system
Went for the B&W 600 s3's. I tried the KEF iQ1 and they sounded great at volume, very spacey, but also sounded a bit too spacey when the volume was low, so some of the clarity seemed to go amiss.
The B&W 600's sounded crisp and tight at all levels, good range all over.
The 601's sounded nice also but I would never get the full benefit of them from my system. So the 600's sounded the best suited for my ears.
The system sounds fantastic so far, I have still to add interconnects (got 2 QED Q1) and good speaker cable. Then maybe a rel subwoofer
So thanks guys for the advice :smashin:
Really helped as I would have mordaunt shorts at this point otherwise. :suicide:
One last question, these speakers don't appear to be shielded, how far away from the tv should I place them?
    Thanks again.
