Should I keep speaker cable runs the same length, or does a metre here and there not matter?

It's for a Videologic surround sound system, so we're only talking budget quality here.

    Thanks.

Maybe in some theoretical way but in practise it is not something to worry about.

    I wouldn't worry about it.

Here's the theoretical way if you're interested:
The signal will travel down your copper speaker wire at approximately 3 million metres per second. One extra metre will therefore cause a delay of 1 third of 1 millionth of a second (ie. 0.3 microseconds). Whilst this may possibly be audible with a few 10's of metres difference there is another more salient point...

Sound travels through air at approximately 330 metres per second so if you moved your head by 0.33 metres the sound difference would be 1 thousandth of a second (ie. 3000 times the difference seen by 1 extra metre of speaker cable).

I think we can agree that there are far more important aspects than a few metres of speaker cable :)
