I have recently ordered the Canton CD1 AV Speaker Package and Denon 1705 AV Amp to make my new plasma sound good. After spending slightly more than permitted to do so by "The Wife" I now have to purchase decent quality speaker cable and connectors. I would love to buy top of the range QED cable and connectors as my intention is to run them within a wall cavity but I require 25 meters of cable which would end up rather costly.

Does anyone know of a slightly cheaper alternative??

    :lease:

    Twin & Earth.

If you do not know what it is - perform a search with the above-mentioned words.

Guys, I initially had T&E and thought it was great - I then made up my own cat5 cables...the difference knocked me off the sofa!

Make 'em up from cat5 network cabling, also very cheap and they sound excellent. Allow about an hour for the first cable and you get quicker the more you do...buy a wire stripper at the same time as the cat5 or you'll go nuts stripping the little twisted pair ends :)

Thanks for that. Will save a fortune.

After reading some more of the forums I think the best thing would be to use T&E for the rear surround speakers and really good stuff for the 2 front, centre and sub.

I will probably only require a further 12 meters of cable for all the speakers at the front because they will be closer to my amp.

Should you buy different cable for the sub??

Don't know if I can bi-wire the fronts, centre and sub on the Canton CD1 ??

A sub usually requires a special sub cable. The Canton's are not bi-wirable.

I remember this interview with an audio engineer at this hifi show when they saw a special looking orange cable going to the speakers. Turned out his preferred speaker cable was outdoors grade flex from B&Q. Sounded great too!

good VFM, decent braided cable thats all too thick wont fit in cantons and solid core with the ALu drivers in canton may be very tinny
