HI - I have bought some IXOS Gamma cable that is 4.2mm thick. Banana plugs can normally take a width of 4mm, as can spades by the look of it!
So my question is, how should i connect the cables to my Yamaha RXV1500 and AE Aegis Evo's? i used to use banana plugs but obviously cant seem to now! Bearing in mind that the kit is quite decent, i'd like the best possible connection with what i have!
Is there any advantage banana/spades have over bare wires into binding posts?(or is that a question i shouldnt be asking!)

Any advice appreciated as i need to get set up this weekend!

Hi Stinky, Supras new CombiCon banana or spade connectors will take cable diameter up to 6mm, but they aren't cheap.
As for any 'advantage', most banana and spades are there for convenience more than anything else, there are a few exceptions such as QED's 'airloc' banana plugs that seal the bear wire from the harmful effects of Oxygen on copper, but they ain't cheap either

Haven't used them, but they look good quality and reasonable price.

You could also use something like these and leave the sleeves off, covering the ternnination with some heat shrink sleeving instead.

those shark things look ok but say cables upto 4mm. would they take the 4.2mm if i used heat shrink on them? I guess they would need soldering? the cable by the way is IXOX 6006 gamma or whatever its called now!

I assume the 4.2mm is the outer diameter of the cable?

The inner conductors will fit the plug okay but yes, it would be best to solder them. :)

4.2m i think the ixos site says: "4.2mm PC-OFC conductor" so i guess that means the actual copper. looks like i'll be testing my soldering skills then!!
