I've just realised my sound card has a CD SPDIF connector...

I've had a quick search on a few sites but I can't seem to find anywhere that sells a cable for connecting the CD player to the sound card.
Anyone know where I can get one?

You don't need one as digital audio is transferred over IDE. I wouldn't worry about it ;)

    D'oh!
    Thanks for that Kramer.

However, if I select Digital output only from the Creative Audi HQ application, I only get sound coming from the rear surround speakers?

As digital audio is transferred across the IDE interface, does that mean I can disconnect the standard analogue cable that is alredy connected between CD and soundcard?

    Damn this upgrading/fiddling... ;)

EDIT: Just removed the analogue cable and it does indeed work. What are these inputs for then or are they old legacy items?

Yes, they're not needed either. I've used probably a dozen soundcards & even more CD/DVD drives & have never needed any extra connections.

It's probably a setup or s/ware issue with you Creative. Have a "poke" around in the CP/properties/AudioHQ . IIRC you need to configure the speakers on the 4.1 & certainly most multichannel cards.

Well that's another new thing I've learned today.

Removing that cable should help to keep the heat down by 0.1 of a degree ;)
